Let's talk about Thomas, I was a big fan of his and one of the first people to be arguing his case as a Half Forward in the AA thread last year

He was poor on the weekend for even the expectations I have of him, surly that's concerning....
What is going on with Thomas, dropped this week and had been poor all year.

Have been so disappointed with him, I can see the talent but I’m not sure he wants to be a footballer

Yep, the Pies moved him on for a reason.
You don't trade the rising star winner after 3 years due to 1 bad year, when you increase his contract for 5 years at $500k pa.
I doubt he will be at North before his contract ends.

Doubt we’d get a taker

The second coming dropped. Massive call by North
Dropped to “win back the trust of his teammates”. What does that even mean?

Six decades of domination
Simpkin is a ball butcher. He is defenisvely unaaccountable. Gone backwards.

Thomas promises the world but lacks the work rate. Has lost the trust of his teammates which is damning.

Stephenson likewise a super talent but cannot get it done at two different clubs.

Powell who was spoken by North supporters as being a superior option to Newcombe has been disappointing this year. Much of that is to do with the North coaching staff/match committee not entrusting him to be a proper centre square midfielder. Why is that?

Larkey who has been wholly disappointing save for a 6 goal haul against some WAFL nobodies.

In lean years you look for development and improvement where ever you can find it. We have seen the flourishing of Lewis this year in a breakout season. Moore and CJ building upon an impressive 2021. The emergence of young Ned Reeves and the meteoric rise of Jai Newcombe in what could be a Rising Star calibre season.

Has any North player actually improved in 2022 apart from LDU who looks to finally be living up to his hype?

Take nothing away from Goldstein who is a champion ruckman but the fact he is looking likely to win the B&F at the age of 33 turning 34 is scary for where North are at.

Lewis comparison to Larkey is over. Lewis is so far beyond Larkey that it is not fair to compare the two.

Much fairer comparison is Kosi (21) v Larkey (24).

Xerri has been better than Reeves while playing less ruck time. So he has improved.

North just need to remember that no individual is bigger than the club. If a kid deserves a kick up the arse than give it to them no matter what …… don’t tip toe around them!

They did it with Thomas, will be interested to see if they do it with Horne-Francis. Some of his efforts were really poor where he almost stopped playing

Well JHF will get a week or two off for his hit on Kelly anyway.

Not a good look him going off at teammates, when he wasn't getting a touch himself and letting Coniglio do what he likes.

It's truly amazing what a decent coach and development system versus a poor coach and development system can do. Clarkson is obviously a legend but Mitchell has brought with him a fresh approach plus the tactical nous of Clarkson.

I genuinely don't think Hawthorn's youngsters are more talented than North's. But they will end up much better players at this rate.

Talent is subjective. A player is only as good as what they have in their tool box aswell as how they improve, people use the word ROI or Rate of Improvement aswell. You can be born with or have alot of tools (through work in junior years) but the work never stops and everyone's always trying to get an edge.

Xerri has been better than Reeves while playing less ruck time. So he has improved.

Twice as many games, extra year, and one of the best ruckmen in years to do the heavy lifting. Xerri is one of the few at the Roos who has a real chance to develop well.

That said, Reeves has stood up against the best current ruckmen on his own. I dont think there are any disappointed Hawks supporters.

Stats are basically identical for Xerri and Reeves and that's with Reeves missing 3 quarters against Geelong which one would've made his stats 10x bettter (dominated Stanley in the first was on track for 40 hitouts and 15 to advantage LOL) but even then still very close and similar and Reeves done most of this as a solo.

Best 22 across all 3 sides 24 and under. (24 because of key position talent!) - Based off of 2022.
B: Mitchell Hinge, Jordan Butts, Jack Scrimshaw
HB: Changkuoth Jiath, Ben McKay, Will Day
C: Harry Morrison, Jy Simpkin, Lachlan Sholl
HF: Dylan Moore, Nick Larkey, Josh Rachele
F: Tristian Xerri, Mitchell Lewis, Cam Zurhaar
FOL: Ned Reeves, Jai Newcombe, Luke Davies-Uniacke
INT: Sam Berry, Jason Horne-Francis, Josh Ward, Jackson Hately

Took a fair amount into 2022, there's a fair amount of talent missing.

Tarryn Thomas has been super poor and tbh it was surprising to see how bad his stats were aswell, he'd be the med sub of the side. Powell is talented but not here due to partly the North coaching. Will Phillips.

Could've been without another with McKay but still 24 till end of year, would replace with DGB after that.

Impressed with Paul Curtis.

Stephenson not close and is the other talented North player.

Scott is a solid defender but consistency without the ceiling and the elite defense already there I don’t see him near it. A few of the wings can play defense and their were a few other options 👍

From a Crows POV, there's a few tbh there's a couple just above 24 (Keays, Dawson and Doedee).
But also players like Soligo who i've liked this year, young Schoenberg regressed a little tho talented, Thilthorpe talented as, Cook, Pedlar. McHenry, Zac Taylor (just drafted not played), Rowe (solid).

Hawks wise, Connor MacDonald really close, Brockman through injury, Bramble pretty close but a strong defense (should play wing), Worps poor form, similar to that of Tarryn Thomas. Nash not too far off tbh, Hardwick a year too old, DGB really close but two really good key defenders there, Butler not far off either been good, Maginness.

Players per team and per position.

MID: 4
FWD: 2

Feel free to remind me how stupid this is and who i've missed, keen to start a convo and especially with the bye coming up
