GOALS
Hawthorn: Gunston 5, Breust, Koschitzke, McEvoy, O’Meara, Ward
Gold Coast: Hollands 2, Holman 2, Ainsworth, Casboult, Sharp, Witts

BEST
Hawthorn:
O’Meara, Gunston, Moore, Newcombe, Sicily, Mitchell
Gold Coast:
Swallow, Hollands, Witts, Ellis, Ainsworth

The older Hawthorn blokes kicked 8 of their team's 10 goals

4 of their 6 best players were from the older brigade. Hardwick should've been named among the best players.
If we include him as an older guy (25yo, 120 games) then it's 5 of their best 7 players.

They are taking the piss with Sicily and Mitchell. JOM and Gunston well deserving of their spot in the bests today.

Our need of forwards and a creative attacking midfielder are clear as day though. Without Lewis and now Moore pushing up to the middle rather than HFF we have a big gap of younger blokes filling that role.

Titch and Sicily were good but weren’t in the best, neither was Jaeger who butchered it a bit.

Best was Newcombe, Ward, Moore, Gunston, Maginness, Hardwick for anyone who watched the game.

I watched the game and that report is pretty bang on. You live in some delusional world where Hawthorns senior players aren’t significant to their success this year.
Did you watch blindfolded?

Ward was great, his class, ball use etc was top notch he was in our best, yet not there.

Moore Newcombe Ward 3.
Then Dimma who kept Rankine basically useless, Maginness (elite tagging job on Miller), Gunston (bagged 5)

It’s quite simple.

Sicily gave up 4 goals from turnovers today. He's our B&F winner but this was a very poor game.

Mitchell did not have a better game than Hardwick, Maginess & Ward. Even Nash was more influential than Mitchell. If you wanted an older player to fit your narrative I'd have put Big Boy ahead of Mitchell. Witts had minimal influence today.

Big Boy was pretty good but don’t think he was better than Mitchell.

If you’re rating players on field its
Moore, Newcombe, Ward, Gunston, Maginness, Hardwick.

Then the next lot of Mitchell, Jaeger, McEvoy (valiant). Which were the older blokes who steered the ship.

You had Sic who’s not really old so putting him in that middle brigade is fine and he was solid which in his terms is a down game for this year in a clear AA season.

Then the next lot is youth again
Day (could be included in the lot above, he was good) Scrimshaw, Nash.

Our best players today in no particular order were:

Maginness
Ward
Hardwick
Newcombe
Gunston
Moore
Special mention to Jeka who held chol goalless. His first goalless game of the season.

That above list other then Gunston and Hardwick (25) are under 23.

Our senior players in Mitchell. Sicily. McEvoy. Breust. Impey were all average today.

Hawthorn today had 14 players (sub included) 23 years old or younger. We were without: reeves. Lewis. Wingard. Cj. And to a lesser extent Worpel, bramble, frost who are borderline best 22. That is a lot of key personal missing, especially being a bottom 6 side.

This season has been a massive success. 8 wins and the emergence of a lot of young potential stars. Day and dgb, two of our high end draft picks in recent seasons have been our two most disappointing players this season in terms of development…if and when those two take the next step, the hawks will be pushing to play finals.

Confirmation bias.

North fans have reached the sad position where the best they can do to seek solace from the back-to-back spoons they are about to receive is to point at Hawthorn's older players and say "see they are contributing to your wins". Of course they are. That's what older players at most clubs do. Clubs that have s**t youth AND s**t older players are not so lucky. They win spoons.

Don’t bunch Breust and Impey with McEvoy Sicily & Mitchell, those first two were average the other three were pretty good and did roles.

However they steered the ship while the youth drove it. Especially with all the key injuries.

Disagree…Mitchell was average at best..had absolutely no influence of the game. Sicily’s first half was incredibly poor. He was lazy and looked disinterested. Was one of his poorer matches this season. McEvoy was serviceable..Witts had more disposals and more hit outs. We need to play two rucks..hopefully the rumours of lynch being sick were true because playing Kozi as the back up ruck is like playing with one less each week.

Kosi was poor I agree. Mitchell was pretty good so I disagree, used it well and won it over the ground and worked hard as he usually does. An average game for him but he did his role, so did Jaeger, McEvoy (battling by himself) and Sicily was poor by his standards but was still pretty good.

And yes Lynch was sick.

Whoever gave those votes didn’t watch the game… Sicily was one of our worst players in the first half. He had one of his poorest games this season. Mitchell was average at best.

Finn Maginness was one of 3 best players. Touk miller had 82 total meters gained. The lowest he’s had in the last 3 years.

Whoops ... Ta for the heads up .

2 bags from 3 still excellent form , doing his old man proud !!
I'm surprised none of the top teams made Hawthorn a decent offer for Gunston. He is still a gun and a proven finals performer.

Imagine Gunston lining up for Melbourne, Collingwood or Brisbane. It could be the difference between winning the flag or finishing 2nd/3rd
Even the teams vying for 8th position (St Kilda, Bulldogs or Richmond) would be way more dangerous with Gunners up forward.

That's why the Hawks won 3 in a row: because we traded aggressively when we were in our premiership window.
Trading all those 1st round draft picks might've been to our detriment in the long term, but who wouldn't trade their "future" away for a premiership hat trick
No point having a dominant era and only winning the 1 flag

JHF is mentally and emotionally checked out. Doesn't give a s**t on the field anymore.

Crows and Port going to get him for cents on the dollar. Can't believe North didn't accept the two first round picks.

Yep…he is gone. Since coming back from suspension he’s been disinterested. Can’t see him playing there next season.

Awesome game from Nick Larkey today. If only he had another partner in crime for north to build around..someone like Logan Macdonald.

Port can have him odd round numbers, we'll have him for evens and some other weekends.
