Which trade was better, the Hardwick trade last year or the Pickett trade this year?

I'm extremely happy with both, but gee the Dimma trade was a tough one to beat but i think Snowdon & co have done it one better with the Pickett deal.

Pickett. We gave away numerically more, but in a weaker draft, for a bloke 5 years younger but just as good.

Probably Pickett because he is a bit younger, we gave up 2nd and 3rd pick for Hardwick where as we gave up 1st and 3rd pick for Pickett.

Pickett was the player I really wanted so I'd have to say Pickett. Hardwick was just a nice extra last year, I don't think we targerted him like we did Pickett, and when you target a player like Pickett and get him cheap it is always good as often when you target a player the opposition team knows you will pay big to get them.

So yeah Pickett, both excellent deals though.

I think the Pickett trade was better, mainly due to the fact of age and that Pickett is more versatile than Hardwick.

Last year we gave away Draft Picks 31 (Joel Reynolds) and 47 (Andrew Welsh) to Essendon for Damian Hardwick, only time will tell if we won in that trade although Joel Reynolds was always going to Essendon under the Father/Son rule.

We will all have to wait and see who gets drafted at 15 and 35 but I am pretty pleased with this deal.

Have to say I'm more excited with Pickett. We managed to trade so that we weren't just left with a load of late picks and we got a top and hard forward. The hard bit is going to be important to us. I wouldn't say that I said "Big deal" when we got Hardwick but the truth was we probably wouldn't have gone for him if Wilson hadn't injured himself in 2001, we would have had a good enough defence.
He may have come a bit more expensive than "Rockin' Ronnie" but you pay peanuts, you get monkeys.

Not meaning to intrude, but from a slightly biased outsider's perspective i reckon Pickett might end up being the better trade, but only because he represents more versatility than Hardwick. Both are tremendously tough, hard competitors who also have the necessary class to be top line AFL players, but Choppy is probably more likely to win matches for you as us North supporters will sadly miss.

However, Hardwick is probably more of a natural leader who is more capable of helping to bring on any of your younger fellas than Choppy, who is very much an individual player rather than a team objectives type. But with is amazing natural talent, why would you want to try and reign that in?

Either way, you now have a gun player capable of all sorts of wonderful things in Pickett. And i know you'll enjoy watching him in your colours.

Lucky bastards! :( ;)

Or as the Hawthorn supporter at work calls him, Roland Flickett.

Well you obviously know f*ck all then. Or perhaps you confused Burns (30 in March & a hack) with Pickett (25 last august).

Last year we got Hardwick, this year we got Pickett.
This year we also have better draft picks than last year.
From that point of view we have done better than last year.

If we can replace Brooks at #8 and get someone good at #18, then it will definitely have done better this year.
