Out of curiosity I was wondering which WAFL and SANFL teams other Blues supporters follow and why.

I started getting into footy in the mid 80's which was a time, as we all know, that Carlton started to get a number of players form WA and SA. Whilst my interest in the WAFL and SANFL are merely a passing interest I always keep an eye on those teams I followed in the 80's

In the WAFL it was Claremont as Wayne Blackwell was probably my favourite player behind The Dominator.

In the SANFL it was Glenelg because of Sticks

So I just thought that it might be interested to see which teams other Blues supporters follow in those leagues and why they became aligned to those teams

Never having followed the WAFL I'd probably cheer for Claremont, if only for the CFC monogram that they sport. .. Plus played all my junior footy for the Tigers. ..

SANFL used to be a simple answer as I've followed the palindrome that is Glenelg about as long as I've followed Carlton. .. However I went to a Glenelg vs South Adelaide game this year after losing touch with the SANFL for years and by the end I was barracking for Souths (it was fittingly a draw). .. The reason for this was that it was a South's sponsor dinner I was a guest at and I kept going passed life size posters of the players and it looked so much like Carlton, so I was swayed by the Navy Blue. ..

so its now:

WAFL - Claremont (by default)
SANFL - Glenelg / South Adelaide

My real passion is Carlton though. ..

WAFL - West Perth because its my families team, soft spot for Subiaco as I played a couple of years of colts there.
SANFL - Glenelg because of Sticks.

West Perth. Played colts level there, so they're my number ones. SANFL, couldn't tell you many teams in the comp let alone follow it with any passion.

Went to my first North Adelaide game when I was 3 months old.

At Alberton of all places

Still follow the Roosters, but nothing like I do my Blues

WAFL - East Fremantle Sharks. I started following them when they were known as Old Easts. I used to go to all the home games with dad and my grandparents were members as well. It always pissed me off that none of the great Sharks players went to the Blues when they made the move to the VFL.

SANFL - Port Magpies. I picked them when I was eight and visiting Adelaide. At the time I picked them because they had won the most flags in the SANFL and the Blues had the equal most flags in the VFL and the Sharks had won the most flags in the WAFL. I figured I may as follow the best club in each competition. We never got any coverage of the SANFL in WA so I didn't follow them very closely. After the Power was born I cut my support.

Now I only follow the Blues and the Sharks.

When you blokes wear the light blue with dark blue emblem you are wearing Sturt guernseys exactly, we are known as the double blues, so I would like to suggest that any of you who do not currently follow a SANFL team from this moment forth now follow Sturt. ;) :thumbsu:
Apart from the fact that Peter Motley came from Sturt, and was destined for a Brownlow before his car crash in Melbourne (in 1987?) that nearly killed him. Tragic.

For those of you who don't know the SANFL teams, they are:

Sturt (Double Blues - light blue and dark blue)
Port (Magpies- black and white)
Glenelg (Tigers, also called the Bays as Glenelg is at Holdfast Bay - gold and black)
North Adelaide (Roosters - red and white)
South Adelaide (Panthers - Blue and white)
West Adelaide (Bloods - Black and Red)
Central Districts (Bulldogs - red, blue and white) - last 12 GFs and 9 flags
Woodville-West Torrens (Eagles - blue and yellow)
Norwood (Redlegs - red and blue)

Cheers

Go the Roosters !!!
Lived in Adelaide from '99 til '07, I followed the Roosters coz Jars was their coach.
I was going to quite a few of their home games there for a while. Good quality games with a 'local' feel about them.

I have a few teams I take a passing interest in...

WAFL - Claremont...I like them due to the guernsey and past Carlton player connection such as Kenny Hunter.

WAFL - Swan Districts- I like their history, and the fact that Garlett and Yarran came from Districts.

WAFL - East Perth-I like their guernsey- blue and black....also a good Carlton connection there...Richard Dennis etc

I can't stand teams that put cartoon pictures of animals on the front of their guernsey- eg East Fremantle with the shark...so as long as they have the shark on their guernsey I think of them as a second rate club that has sold out their traditional style. The jumper they wore back in the 80s was a lot better.

SANFL- like Sturt, Glenelg, Norwood, South Adelaide (they haven't won it for a long, long time) and North Adelaide. I am ok with a winner out of that lot.

South Adelaide has a more Carlton-like geurnsey than Sturt but both are worthy to be chosen on those grounds. ..

Left = South (Similar to Blues home guernsey)
Right = Sturt (Similar to Blues away guernsey)

Used to live/work walking distance from Unley oval back in 2000 odd, so Sturt got the gig.

It's a little tinpot oval you walk your dog around during the week, and every home game they put up the chicken wire fence.

Carman was coach back then, so the match reports post game were always worth waiting around for.

Used to follow St Marys in the NTFL back in the late 90s.
