Re: While Carlton supporters wail about Gibbs didn't we nail the 2006 draft

Team loses match badly
Teams supporters go onto Bigfooty supporter board and spew vile and vitriol
Other teams supporters (if their team won that weekend) go on to the other board for a laugh.

Dont know why anybody would bother going to another teams board to read that rubbish, may as well stay on the Collingwood board and wait for our next loss. Theres as many idiots jumping to conclusions here after one game as anywhere else.

Not sure what our excellent 2006 draft has to do with Bryce Gibbs either. Its a very long bow to draw.

And key injuries during a game especially early ARE very important.

Hawthorn lost Gibson against the Swans, Carlton lost Carazzo against Essendon, Collingwood lost Ball against Carlton. It has a massive effect.

When it comes to Carlton I could never be that rational.

Re: While Carlton supporters wail about Gibbs didn't we nail the 2006 draft

I think the thing about Carlton supporters, and Hawthorn for that matter, is that they have an air of expectation about winning. Their supporters are the most reprehensible when an umpiring decision is paid against them or not paid, and also when their teams lose.

If you have that sort of air of expectancy, you have to have a big whinge when things don't go according to the internal monologue. That means the players are shit, the coach is shit, the umpires are shit. Of course every team has supporters like that, but Carlton and Hawthorn are super-saturated by such types and such language. There is an impatience there born of being spoilt - see zoning.

A more measured approach would be to look at aspects of a game-plan, development, some issues with players or some players' application. I have to enjoy my schaudenfruede because it is so well earnt.

Agreed. Living through the 60s 70s and 80s means I feel no remorse.

My other reason for enjoying their trip to the mire is the generation of Carlton supporters who are now grown with no personal memories of their powerhouse years. Its now 17 seasons since the last flag and if you want to play games and start from 1988 they have only 1 flag in virtually 1/4 of a century. If their current team doesn't pick one up in the next few seasons they will probably require another rebuild so this could stretch well beyond 30 years. Its not the record of the modern day powerhouse that so many of them see themselves as.

As you say they have a lot of supporters who seem to feel entitled to success but this sentiment must be on the wane. It will be interesting to see if the current under 25 yo supporters lose some of that expectancy. If they don't it will be as we all suspect, there is something genetically wired into Carlton supporters to make them so reprehensible.

That draft won us a flag in 2010. Absolutely fantastic and to get 3 premiership kpp's and 2 medium sized, but very important role players as well, woul never have been done before. Thumbsup

Spicey tend to disagree slightly on the worst supporters re expecting umpiring decisions to go their way.

I went to some of the early Crows matches over there and the supporters were absolute and utter $%^@##!!!!

You forgot the asterisks that go with that one. ;)

AGREED, every single second of Carlton agony is to be savoured like a fine vintage :D:thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

Agree also. sorry to intrude on your board but this is an interesting discusion. so good to see the tankers suffering the karma and meltdowing. the herald sun website was a good laugh as well as their own board :D

you guys had an off night against them, even pendlebury had little impact. i hope you lot smack them the **** out of top 4/premiership contention later in the year. good luck tomorrow night against the cats

LMFAO their supporters will never learn it seems - pre season heroes, mid season wanna be's and finals coulda been's. And every year at the end of the pre-season its the same old b/s :D

Makes me laugh that we drafted a whole host of key premiership players in a year that we made finals while Carlton languished at the bottom and drafted the likes of Bryce Squibbs and Mark Austin.

Fellas, I have to say, it's not on taking potshots at Carlton when things are not going too well there now.

After all, Carlton supporters are peop... nah, can't do it...

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA [and great photo Figjam!]

I copied this from Nicks, where it had been copied from Tankingcarlton.

Quote of the night in talkingcarlton gameday thread

Quote:Watching Gibbs put his head over the ball, as there was no-one else 5m near the ball for us, was the hesitation you'd normally see of someone forced to eat their own shit.

****ing LMAO.:thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

the 2006 draft was a massive success granted! however id suggest it says just as much about the quality of the development coaches as much as the recruitment. The work of the development coaches is enormous and having the right stuff is just as important as the head coach.

One does not have to look far (st kilda) to see the potential they had on paper (a massive number of players taken in the top 15 draft, Roo No1, Kozi No2, Ball no2, goddard no1, Dal santo 13) and to never win a flag - good players but with thins many names on paper, should have won several flags.
Richmond squandered its recruiting in the early 2000,s with players who never developed.

We are fortunate at the westpac centre to have the right people behind our players. its reasons like this the Pies will always be a threat! Go Pies!
