I’m on the Hughes bandwagon now. Momentum killing turnover and Hawthorn score the next 2 goals. Ffs.

I would agree but I never want to see him play AFL again so yeah that’s my view on him.

There are whipping boys who cop it because of their draft position like Cerra despite doing not much wrong and there are guys who deserve it (ok I get that it's AFL, it's a game, poor kid is probably down in the dumps etc, but people pay their salaries) like Hughes and Bombdon - I mean Langdon

Not at whipping boy stages just yet, but I was disappointed in Switta when he passed off to Langdon late in the 4th. As a specialist small forward he should want to be taking those shots. And Langdon’s no dead eye dick anyway. It was cause for concern for me. Showed nerves and/or a lack of confidence.

He bloody well did it again today. First quarter, marks inside 50 with a howling breeze at his back. Lays it off. I like his tackling but he needs to start hitting the scoreboard. He should WANT to kick goals.

Been saying for years Hughes shouldn't be on an afl list. He literally looks like a guy who YouTube'd AFL 3 hours ago and thought he'd give it a go. Dead set useless, absolutely embarrassing he got an extension.
We went way to early on him.

Cox — lethargic, seems uninterested unless the ball goes directly to him, seems frightened to tackle although he tries to make it seem like he’s not and to my mind anyway, no gumption!

It's probably a toss up between Cox and Colyer to be completely honest. As much as I don't believe in the idea of whipping boys it's definitely one of these guys. Cox while a good mark, lacks pace and kind of lumbers about, would benefit from attacking the contest more. Colyer has pace like not a lot on our team but severely suffers from consistently inefficient disposal. His talent would be better suited on the wing but Brad & Stephen Hill and Langdon have those spots covered.

As much as he infuriates me, I see good upside in Cox. He is a big unit, and just hasn't been developed properly. Crap forwards coach explains most of that. If it was up to me, I would be getting him to run big numbers in this off season, and switch him into the midfield.

Colyer is an experienced player and is probably beyond it, although I always thought he was brought in as a depth player. Anyway, he has been dropped, which pretty much makes him the Whippee.

My other Whippee nominee is Hughes. Thankfully he is gone this week as well.

Well about Hughes...

It seems that people here have made up their minds on McCarthy already and they haven't even given him a chance to start training yet, oh well then. He's one of my fave players on the team so I'll probably go in and defend him. Cox is still my whipping boy in my opinion.

Waiting until at the least the season starts before rolling out the scape goats might be a good idea.
Personally me as a life long underachiever hardly has the right to call anyone a whipping boy.
I have been guilty of putting shit on various players ,coaches over many years and have realised the hypocrite I am . For the past insults I apologise.
This season I will applaud the skill courage and entertainment the players give me and will desist with the shitcanning. :)

For me "whipping boy" means someone who gets the blame even when they're playing well. So judging by last year, it's still Taberner, with Ethan Hughes runner up.
Yeah agreed. Hughes played well most of the time that he was out there but because he would have a couple of shanks people piled shit on him. He's a better player than guys like Nyhuis who people on here desperately wanted to see in the team.

Totally agree, most on here have the wrong idea of what a whipping boy is.

Hughes while not being a great player is definitely underrated around here and has the title of Fremantle Bigfooty Whipping Boy 2019.

As the Cam seems to be the early leader in the 2020 season whipping boy stakes a couple of tidbits from a friend who knows him from his junior cricket days and bumped into him in Freo yesterday

Apparently Ross only used to talk to him if he was being selected or if he was being dropped

He also hinted that he’s likely to be playing a different role next year To make more use of his kicking skills

Honestly, I think having a whipping boy in a team is a ludicrous idea overall. We as fans should never take the opportunity to talk down on our players and should always show our support for them in a positive way. This does nothing but create drama and negativity.
