Upgrayedd have you been to The Grove Distillery down near Margaret River in the south west of WA?

I don't remember which one it was, but the Jameson's I have had was absolutely terrible. I find myself loving Scotch lately

The IPA cask IMO just doesn't really work.

Need to head back down to dunsborough in a few weeks so I may head to margs for a day to check it out

I thought i would try a new one today and bought a bottle of 23rd Street Hybrid ( whisky/bourbon) . Kind of sacriligeous i know, but its actually a pretty nice drop.

That stuff is great. Tried to get the distilled to tell me what it's blended with but he wouldn't. I think its a fantastic drink. Get those bourbon flavours without anything too bold or sweet

Recently purchased myself a Starward whisky in Myer, it's their special bottle only sold in the Myer pop up store. Can highly recommend. Also, if you are in there you get free samples of their whiskey. Sure makes Xmas shopping a little more bearable.

Rather than wallow in COVID the extra cash saved from a lack of socialising has been put to good use. Now the proud owner of one of the 5915 bottles of 1989 Dalwhinnie 25 Year Old, my first birth year whisky (distilled in 1989). Now to wait for a sufficient occasion to warrant opening it.

I've seen some 1993 bottles but haven't been able to get any yet, unfortunately. But a birth year is definitely on my list!

Anyone tried the Lagavulin GoT edition? I don't particularly care about the GoT collaboration, I'm just a Lag fan so am curious, though the reviews for it aren't exactly glowing.

A couple more I've cracked into over the last month or so:

Carn Mor strictly limited (2007).
Tastes like a Christmas plum pudding, absolutely rich and gorgeous. Highly recommended.

Ned.
Incredibly sickly sweet, notes of honey, fruit and maple syrup. Not my thing, which is a shame.

Also the post above had a bottle of the Chita. That was amazing, my first bottle of Japanese whisky and it blew me away in terms of tastes.

Ned sounds like my type of whisky!

Can't say I have
If you can, give it a go. I'd highly recommend it, its one of my favorites and I think it is my old mans fave. It's $98 at Dans.

(Copied from Elswhere)-
Tasting notes from the producer
  • NOSE
    Light fragrance, banana and vanilla.
  • PALATE
Banana, lemon and melon with a hint of cinnamon.
  • FINISH
Long and sweet, galia melon, light spice.

It reminds me of a Christmas desert tbh, probably the light spice and cinnamon.

The Glenlivet was one of our favourite distilleries in Scotland so whenever we return from OS we stock up. Have a nice little stash built up but this is what we are currently drinking

Received a bottle of Laphroaig Quarter Cask as a present, and holy hell is it good. As someone who isn't a big fan of Islay whisky the Quarter Cask offers a lot more smoothness and muted smoke/peat/salt flavours in the palate and finish than it's brother the Laphroaig 10. Highly recommended.

Another one to add to the incredibly good pile, Redbreast 12. Allegedly it's better than it's 15 year old companion.

I very much enjoy bourbon whiskey.

For miscellaneous mixing I like Jack Daniels (technically not bourbon, but you know), Maker’s Mark or Wild Turkey. CC sometimes, too, as it is almost always good value.

For sipping neat I love trying different ones... currently working through a bottle of Knob Creek Small Batch. On the top shelf are a couple of bottles I bought in the States, Michter’s US*1 and Angel’s Envy. Looking forward to those.
Dickel #12 sour mash bourbon
Buffalo Trace straight bourbon
Both very good value for an everyday drinking bourbon
