I agree with what phantom is saying but I find myself in the category of thinking there could or should have been a bigger twist
I said in the other thread that I was disappointed with the final episode.

Everything kind of played out in a very predictable, although still absurd, way. Maybe that was the point, I dunno.

I think one of the appeals of the show for me is that it doesn’t get too wild. This season with the gay mafia thing was probably as off the wall as it gets. Keeping it a little bit lower key, to me, makes it far more intriguing.

Eh.

Thought it was well made, and I was never bored, but I clearly don’t “get it”. I’ll forget both seasons within a month.
9 replies says a lot about the show.

First episode in and the acting and script are terrible.

Someone getting completed naked in front of their friends wife to put their swimmers on, then the wife tells her husband but he isn’t concerned, and a PA just happens to be eating at an expensive restaurant on her own, when her boss walks in….

Watched this a week ago, thats how excited we are to watch the next episode.

People are easily pleased these days.

Thread was only started last week so think that's a bit harsh.

They weren't eating in an expensive restaurant, it was just a restaurant downtown. Him brushing off his friend getting naked was because they were so awkwardly detached and he didn't know how to react to it. The entire premise of the season is their fundamental intimacy issues in their relationship.

People are easily aggravated these days.

Second episode and more great scenes.

A guy goes for a run in the morning then comes home while his wife is out having brekkie and gets naked on the bed and starts wanking over pr0n. A bottle of moisturizer happens to be on the bed side table, like men always wank with moisturizer.

Later on one of the guests that’s hiring escorts just happens to allow this escort and her friend to stay in their room and use his credit card to run up a bill. Also creates a scene in the foyer of this exclusive hotel while putting their names on his room.

All this happens all the time.

Such great writing. I can see why HBO picked it up and it’s such a hit….

sounds like you don’t like character studies and that’s okay

Lots of blokes wank with moisturizer or lube, lol.

And the character that hired the escorts had promised/booked them work for the week so to make it up to them he let them use his room after he had changed his mind.

This show isn't for you if these are the types of criticism you have.
I enjoyed the first season more.

Also, if you're in Italy, why are you eating at the hotel restaurant every day?

I believe the intention is to show how kind of stupid a lot of these people are, they could be out trying to find fantastic local food but instead are staying in the comfort of their hotel because they're too lazy/self involved/insular.

Most of the time they are eating breakfast (which makes sense to be the meal you would have in the hotel) and its a 5 star hotel, of course you are going to eat there a lot. Can't believe we are getting to this level of granular detail defending one of the best shows of 2022.

What a strange question. It's a 5 star hotel and they're eating breakfast before heading out for the day, or having dinner after being out exploring. There's also several occasions where they eat out around the place.

On top of that the entire point of the show (both seasons) is how these people are out of touch with reality in different ways so would likely be spending unnecessary amounts of money for the comforts of the hotel rather than 'mixing it with the locals'.

Some weird criticisms in this thread.

I think I liked Season 1 better, but still enjoyed the second season. Nothing spectacular about it but there's just something compelling about the dynamic between characters, loved the brooding feud between the rich toff and the hotel manager in season 1.

Watched season 1 this week.

Started to get a little overboard with the drugs and the manager getting caught eating backside but thankfully it toned down a bit for the last 2 episodes.

It was good enough but at the end I did wonder what was the point of it all.

I think the no point, no consequences for the guests etc. is sort of the point.

The most interesting outcome in season 1 was the lady who found the rich lady annoying at the start but when she found out she had money and wanted to help her start a business then suddenly she didn't mind putting up with her.

But in the end her help mean't the lady ended up with the guy and she didn't get her business.
