The club owes at least that much to a loyal son of the club.
Don't be silly. The club owes him absolutely nothing.
He was a great servant of the club, but you have to move on at some stage, and this was the time for the club to move on.
The article shows that the decision to get rid of him was the right one. Clubs let players go all the time, just like people are let go from their jobs on a regular basis.
The employer owes the employee nothing. Lance was a great servant of the Carlton Football Club, but if it's time to move our separate ways, so be it.
We had to take a stand, and I agree that the club essentially owes him nothing... however, if he pulls the pin now, we need to stand up and offer him something. A development coaching job or maybe, as I said, a position on the match day committee.
Lance was an iffy prospect for the next season but if the club had of ridden his ass to the end of next year and he maintained his fitness and weight, he would have been an asset. Move fev to CHF and keep Lance in the full forward position or even leave Fev at FF and move Lance to the FP where he would actually cause more of a threat with hart's, Waite and the fish in the forward line... we might have scared a few teams with that sort of potency...
At the end of the day, the club didnt want to take the gamble with his knee and one more season.

Jeremias, I think it's beyond dispute now that it really didn't matter what he did - his knee was gone. It didn't get that way because he was fat, it got that way from being driven into the SCG turf. 2006 was always going to be his last good year.If if if. If Lance had of looked after his own bloody body...

I agree the two parties owe each other nothing, but I still think he offers something valuable as a specialist coach to our developing youngsters. Where to position yourself, where the play is going to be, fooling oppoonents - does anyone not acknowledge that he was a master at reading play?
Well at least two surgeons disagree with you.his knee isnt as bad as people think......

name them....
and Lance and Nixon agree with me....

Lance clearly wants to keep playing footy, and has struggled with the reality that his knee prevents him from competing at this level. The decision had to be made, His manager's behaviour was atrocious. Hopefully any ill-feeling will settle shortly, and Lance will return to the Club in a development capacity. Despite his flaws, Lance has been a great servant for our Club and deserves respect.
... And once again Ricky Nixon is proven to be a liar.
If anything Whitnall owes the CFC, for showing up out of shape for the majority of his contracts.
It's like a normal person showing up at work drunk for over 8 years then it gets so bad that they can't go to work anymore, and they get let go because of it. Then they complain that it's unfair because they're one of the best at their job, despite their physical shape.
Fred and Pete.name them....
Yeah, it's probably good enough for anything except AFL. He could probably even play VFL/SANFL if he wanted. His knee seems good enough to play cricket. He made 80 for Lalor on Saturday
