No one likes a told you so but do you think the public outbursts may have had some part in this ?

Would really love to see Whittall's brain down at Carlton, I though that's why we always kept him on in the first place.

Hope he finds something suitable.

Man... that is crap... I loved his brain on the pitch and I would have loved to have seen him out there for one more year.

Maybe we need him as an advisor on the match day committee to help with the in match tactically decisions.

The club owes at least that much to a loyal son of the club.

The club owes at least that much to a loyal son of the club.

Don't be silly. The club owes him absolutely nothing.

He was a great servant of the club, but you have to move on at some stage, and this was the time for the club to move on.

The article shows that the decision to get rid of him was the right one. Clubs let players go all the time, just like people are let go from their jobs on a regular basis.

The employer owes the employee nothing. Lance was a great servant of the Carlton Football Club, but if it's time to move our separate ways, so be it.

... And once again Ricky Nixon is proven to be a liar.

If anything Whitnall owes the CFC, for showing up out of shape for the majority of his contracts.

It's like a normal person showing up at work drunk for over 8 years then it gets so bad that they can't go to work anymore, and they get let go because of it. Then they complain that it's unfair because they're one of the best at their job, despite their physical shape.

We had to take a stand, and I agree that the club essentially owes him nothing... however, if he pulls the pin now, we need to stand up and offer him something. A development coaching job or maybe, as I said, a position on the match day committee.

Lance was an iffy prospect for the next season but if the club had of ridden his ass to the end of next year and he maintained his fitness and weight, he would have been an asset. Move fev to CHF and keep Lance in the full forward position or even leave Fev at FF and move Lance to the FP where he would actually cause more of a threat with hart's, Waite and the fish in the forward line... we might have scared a few teams with that sort of potency...

At the end of the day, the club didnt want to take the gamble with his knee and one more season.

The truth is Icke and Swann have had a gutfull of this bloke...

There are people playing with a knee condition.

Lance was finished ages ago.... the decision was made now because noone could make decisions prior...

We don't need to offer him a job at all. We don't owe him anything. If anything, he owes us.

If Lance gets a development coaching job at the Carlton Football Club, it is an absolute joke. That role requires leadership, something, last year, Lance showed that he didn't have a whole lot of.

If if if. If Lance had of looked after his own bloody body, then he may still have been Captain of the Carlton Football Club in 2008. If he had looked after his own body, then he most probably wouldn't have had the degenerative knee injuries and the CONSTANT weight issues that have plagued him over the last few years. The fact is, that he didn't. We gave him plenty of opportunities, even giving him the captaincy. Not even that worked in getting a rocket up his arse, and making him recognise that we cannot keep giving him another chance.

At the end of the day, the club didnt want to take the gamble with his knee and one more season.

And that was the correct decision to make. They should follow it up by not offering him a job at the club, especially not a job anywhere near the development of the kids.

Jeremias, I think it's beyond dispute now that it really didn't matter what he did - his knee was gone. It didn't get that way because he was fat, it got that way from being driven into the SCG turf. 2006 was always going to be his last good year.

I agree the two parties owe each other nothing, but I still think he offers something valuable as a specialist coach to our developing youngsters. Where to position yourself, where the play is going to be, fooling oppoonents - does anyone not acknowledge that he was a master at reading play?

he was he master at reading play cos he couldnt make it by running to the hotspots.

in the end he would try and anticipate... and alot of the times he was burnt.

his knee isnt as bad as people think......

he just couldnt take the club hints to retire.

the NEW match committee thought he was past it.

A couple of blokes tred to stick up for him.. fortunately we dont rely on fools to run the club these days.

Icke and Swann along with Ratts made the call....

name them....

and Lance and Nixon agree with me....

;)

Sorry, but if Lance is thinking of retiring, then he has assessed the situation and has decided that the doctors have at last a brain and they are right. He is going to be talking to nixon the leech today and tell him to get his head out of Lance's crotch...

At the end of the day... one way or another, he has decided that his career is over.

Personally, it's a bit shit to me coz I rated the guy... he always caused a few problems for the opposition.

Lance clearly wants to keep playing footy, and has struggled with the reality that his knee prevents him from competing at this level. The decision had to be made, His manager's behaviour was atrocious. Hopefully any ill-feeling will settle shortly, and Lance will return to the Club in a development capacity. Despite his flaws, Lance has been a great servant for our Club and deserves respect. :)

I don't get why its "unlikely" he'll get a job at Carlton, whilst we've just handed out coaching positions to other former players such as Teague and Lappin. Teague - playing coach for the Bullants - **** that! I would rather Whitnall as a form of coach then both Lappin and Teague. We all know Whitnall has agreat footy brain, I havn't seen any reason as to why we should make Teague and Lappin as our 2 coaches who work on developing our players

I just wish he had retired before it came out publicly that we'd given him the ass.

I hope he stays on as some sort of coaching/mentor capacity

My thoughts exactly, I loved Big Red but was continually frustrated by his lack of professionalism in looking after his body.

Other than his first or possibly second contract he was always well looked after financially, its too bad that he didnt invest in his body management.

One could argue thats its Karma in relation to his knee problems being related to his weight problem over the years??????

Retirement was the right decision and from a selfish point of view I am glad he wont wear another teams jumper. Enjoy retirement with the wife and kids Lance. :thumbsu:

His knee seems good enough to play cricket. He made 80 for Lalor on Saturday
