Squiggle tips Saints at 51% chance -- What's your tip? -- Team line-ups »
I'll just go with relentlessly depressing and bleak. The comic was wonderfully written, rich, deep with good dialogue but after the 3rd trade i was out. Couldn't handle the darkness anymore. Never started on the series but I am glad TV based on that same set of writing principles is being made.
I dont know how its depressing and bleak. Story of survival at all costs with no one safe. I love it. And if i where to do a top 5 most important character thing (keeping in line with this thread as to not disjoint people too much) mine would go.I'll just go with relentlessly depressing and bleak. 1. Rockliff - heart and soul of the club and leads by example
2. Beams - goal a game classy ball winner can do everything well
3. Martin - AA contending ruckman and essentially is another midfielder
4. Merrett - leadership for extremely young backline, will provide cover for Andrews, and Clarke while being the enforcer that protects the kids
5. Bastinac - the inside mid we have always needed. Will free up Beams, Rich and Hanley to play more outside/forward
Yeah, I was tossing up between Hanley and Bastinac but I don't think he is as important as he has been the past few years. Bundy played some excellent footy towards the end of the year and is so creative with ball in hand. Also consider Zorko and now Bell as the line breaking hard runners albeit their foot skills are fairly ordinary though...It's interesting that you list Bastinac when he hasn't played a game for us, but I agree that the impact he could have freeing up other mids is huge, and he is a seriously talented player in his own right
I'm going to disagree with a couple of posters here.
In order...
1.Voss
2.Black
3.Akermanis
4.Lynch
5.Johnson
By the way did SpecialBruce get banned by revisionists who believe Shaun Hart wasn't one of our top five players during the golden years?
great list/explanations. the only difference from my 5 posted earlier was d.beams in for j.walker but you're right key position players will definitely be the hardest to fill for us if injury strikes.Getting back on track, here's my take.
I've put my list together based purely on how replaceable they are; and as it turns out, these five are not!
1. Stefan Martin - with the loss of Leuey and the question mark over West, Martin is my pick for most important player. He leaves a serious hole in our best 22 if he's unavailable.
2. Daniel Merrett - like Martin, without Rog in the side we have a serious hole in our spine. He's one of a few that are happy to throw their weight around, and we saw just how vulnerable we can be without him early in 2015. For us to be seriously competitive Merrett must be in the side.
3. Pearce Hanley - a genuine line breaker that the opposition are forced to act on. If left without attention he can be seriously damaging, and if tagged takes the heat off Beams, Rockliff and Rich. His 2015 was written off to hip surgery, expect him to be back to his best in 2016.
4. Tom Rockliff - the captain and the heart of the team. Never stops trying, rarely misses a target and is hard to keep down. A competitive beast who lifts the bar for everyone else.
5. Josh Walker - controversial? You bet. We've been crying out for a mature body up forward since Brown's retirement. With McGuane and Freeman in the side late in 2015, finally we found a bit of structure. With McGuane (and Staker) now retired, Walker is the only mature forward on our list. If he goes down, sure we have Freeman, McStay, Schache and Close; but these guys are all still kids, and I feel Walker is the one that can make the most immediate impact.
