Being an Essendon supporter and pretty happy so far (one week at a time) the win against Adelaide was great but not as satisfying as Carlton (for obvious reasons) Who do really want to win against and why?.For me like I said:
Carlscum and Geelong (because my best mate goes for them)

ANYONE!

Being a Bomber supporter living in W.A. the Weagles are top of my list so I don't have to listen to their w***er supporters going on & on, very close second is Carlscum then Collingwood.

For me,

1. Richmond, I work with a heap of them and they NEVER shut up, even when they're losing.

2. Hawthorn, all the in-laws barrack for them

3. Weagles, gotta wave that jacket!

1.) Carlton
2.) Carlton
3.) Carlton
4.) Collingwood
5.) West Coast
6.) Kangaroos
7.) Adelaide
8.) Carlton

After that I don't care

Oh, I suppose I still harbour a little hatred for the Hawks (I have a long memory)

The five teams I love to beat in order are:

1. (by a long, long way) Collingwood. Arch-enemies of Fitzroy, I've hated them since birth. Eddie McGuire spouting about how Collingwood is the savior of the league and the centre of the universe all the time only makes it worse. The Vic Park victory by the Brisbane Lions Round 22 last season, which I attended (wearing my FFC guernsey for the first time since 1996 might I add) was particularly sweet. The fact that Eddie had his party spoiled was nearly the best part of the day!)
2. Carlton (silver-spooners, born to rule mentality. Jack Elliott doesn't help either)
3. Bulldogs (Libba, Romero etc.) Give Matty Dent a game!!!
4. Adelaide (the back to back premierships, especially the first one, Shawry and his treatment by Crows supporters)
5. Kangaroos, (the Lions current on-field nemesis. Haven't forgotten the attempted merger either!) Would have been ranked higher except that they have Clayton, Blakey and Chandler on their list.

All the rest I don't have any particular feelings of hatred for, although I do have a soft spot for St Kilda and Sydney. St Kilda because they remind me of Fitzroy and Sydney only because I feel for South supporters in Victoria. Their plight is pretty much the same as what Fitzroy people are going through now.

Dan, we're mostly in agreement I think - but I too have a long memory and would have the Hawks higher than you...

Total comtempt
1.) Carlton

Healthy respect for/ hatred of
1.) Collingwood
2.) Hawthorn
3.) Kangaroos
4.) West Coast
5.) Dogs
6.) Adelaide

If we win these games every year and don't win the flag its still a very good year.

Everyone else, not fussed.

Soft Spots:
1.) Sainters
2.) Roys (so not anymore)

Essendon
Gee, I must really hate Essendon.

1. Dockers, but so far the rivalry hasn't really built up on field
2. Carlton. Is there anyone who DOESN'T hate them?
3. Collingwood. Even before they poached MM.
4. Essendon, not because I don't like them, but if we win then we're usually playing good footy. Oh, and the jacket thing
wink.gif

5. Bulldogs. Bad Blood, 'nuf said.
6. Richmond since we almost always lose

The rest I don't care. Maybe North....

I'm not sure if this is supposed to be another topic for Essendon fans only (I like Bomber fans but gosh, there are a lot of them here) but as an Adelaide supporter the team I like to see us beat the most is the Western Bulldogs. They are the dirtiest, most despicable team in the league (just my opinion) and I will be eternally grateful for those two preliminary finals victories. I don't believe for one moment the facade Terry Wallace presents to the media and although he may believe he is changing the culture of the club, in reality nothing has changed except their success rate. Tony Liberatore is my Most Hated Player, I think Wallace is a fraud (the personality of the coach goes a long way to deciding the likeability or otherwise of a team) and in general I have a healthy disrespect for the football club.

Oh, and then there is Port Power. Interesting that I didn't think of them first. Sam Newman is right. I have almost never seen them play a decent a game of football, and never under their troglodyte of a coach, Mark Williams. In most years the final 8 rewards mediocrity and last year Port were ordinary. This year speaks for itself. That scrappy, negative, short-kicking style is not the way to consistently succeed in AFL football. Living in SA, I always chuckle when I hear commentators talking about an upcoming Power match as likely to be a great or exciting game. Wake up and watch! Their matches are always dull and defensive and the worst thing is that it is part of their game plan to drag the opposing team down to their level and beat them through doggedness, rather than skill. So that's why I dislike the Power, aside from the obvious fact that they are Port.

This has been a negative post, but oh well..

EF

That reminds me of something I forgot to ask at the time. Did the bomber fans get the jackets out on ANZAC day to welcome MM to his new club?

Its going to be interesting to see if the tradition sticks now that its KS v KJ now that MM has gone East.

MrP

Given its notable absence from your list and given your hatred of us and the Pies I assume your a Carlscum fan????

Always a pleasure to knock off Carlton, especially at Optus Oval which is a not terribly often for the Red&Whites I must admit.

Also beating our 1996 nemisis the Kangaroos is always satisfying, especially as it seems to be 'open warfare' between us off the field as well.

1. Geelong
2. Brisbane
3. Hawthorn
4. Western Bulldogs
5. Sydney
6. Carlton
7. Melbourne
8. Essendon
9. Adelaide
10. Richmond
11. St Kilda
12. Collingwood
13. West Coast Eagles
14. Port Adelaide
15. Fremantle

One day I will forgive Geelong for 94, the look on Mick's face will live forever.

Brisbane have been given everything, yet they still cant beat us when it counts, love knowing we have knocked them out of 2 Grand Finals.

Richmond, Collingwood and StKilda would be higher but we beat them regularly and it is getting a bit to easy.

Port

I just luv watching their supporters (read frontrunners) leave early. Something they never do? ha ha ha

Other than Port - Maybe the dogs (1997 Prelim Final was very sweet).

The teams I love to beat are:

1. Collingwood. Okay, they've been mediocre for the past six or seven years, but I hate them above all others.

2. Richmond. I have a very long memory and when they were strong in the early 80s, their crowds were second only to the Pies in intimidation. They also used to win the big games against North too.

3. Carlton. No explanation needed.

4. Brisbane. They should stop whining and get on with playing footy....happy to dob other players in (and use their media to do it) and then go on and on and on and on when others do the payback. Oh, and their gloating over taking over Fitzroy still burns a little too.

5. The Swans in Sydney......this is a more recent thing because of the Colless/Templeton/show biz fans thing. It's kind of sad because most of the Swans fans I've come across have been top people.

6. Geelong. But only for the gloating rights I get over my best mate.

For many years (1984 to 1994 as a matter of fact), the team I wanted to beat above all others was Hawthorn. For something like 15 straight games they beat us....from thrashings to narrow victories, they stole games from us, they waltzed through others....there is nothing better than to snap a long losing streak against another team.

BRISBANE,as they are the biggest bunch of cry babies, read shinboners earlier comments.
I hate them with PASSION, NO OTHER CLUB GETS CLOSE.

Dutchy, yes the jackets were waving, especially by myself, I made the long trip from Perth just to be able to see our boys destroy Mick Malthouse, as you can guess living in Perth & having to put up with the bullshit that was talked about the Weagles & Malthouse as if there was no other team in the AFL worth talking about, tends to turn one totally against them.

Collingwood, Carlton, Essendon, why? why not, no real reason, I just hate that born to rule attitude.

1. Essendon - because no matter how far apart the teams are on the ladder, most of the time the games are really close 6 of the last 8 have been decided by less than 2 goals, and Essendon have often been a good side, so any win over them is...... as Bruce would say........ SPECIAL!

2. West Coast - I will never forgive them for 1992 and 1994 ( and 1991 Preliminary Final)

3. North - Similar to Essendon, the games are always close and they have played in some classic finals over the years. 1994, we still watch the replay.

4. Carlton - Just because they are so arragant, I especially like beating them at Optus Oval, which we have done for the last 3 years... Bring on June 11

5. Collingwood - Just 'cause their Collingwood.

6. Adelaide - Because they steal Geelong coaches, however they can keep Ayres for as long as they want.

7. Bulldogs - Because we always beat the Bulldogs when we're not playing at home. If only we could play them every year in the finals. Another reason for the Bulldogs, is they were the only team Billy Brownless could get a kick against.

8. St'Kilda - only for bragging rights over my best friend.

Couldn't care about the rest.

Fine but how many times have you actually beaten us (Collingwood) in the last few years?

In the last three years Nth have beaten Collingwood in all four encounters.

Dutchy- Massive, MASSIVE oversight by myself! Of course I despise Carlton (who doesn't?). I just thought I'd already put them on the list, near the top.....

I didn't see the Anzac game, but it's a bit silly to keep the jacket thing going for Collingwood isn't it? I don't believe MM ever really got into it did he? I thought it was a Sheedy vs WCE thing.....

Sandie- OK, it must be tough supporting a Vic team from over here, so I can (almost) understand why you're complaining. But you're not really doing much to get away from it -are you? If you want Essendon & general footy stuff, (or specifically not WCE discussion), it might be an idea to steer clear of the Eagles official website and our forum! You've got every right to be there, I'm not denying that, but by doing so your pleas of injustice are a little meaningless, wouldn't you say? Just a thought anyway
