Friendly reminder of JPK's rank for average contested possessions in a season for the past SEVEN seasons:

2017 - 3rd
2016 - 1st
2015 - 2nd
2014 - 2nd
2013 - 1st
2012 - 1st
2011 - 3rd

Ridiculously consistent.

Should have been an All Australian last year imo.

Where does this sit halfway through 2018? I sense there might be a changing of the guard?

For the record, this was the consensus 12 months ago:

1. Patrick Dangerfield – 9.54
2. Gary Ablett – 6.86
3. Scott Pendlebury – 6.4
4. Dustin Martin – 6.28
5. Joel Selwood – 6.02
6. Josh Kennedy – 5.86
7. Nat Fyfe – 2.36
8. Rory Sloane – 2.04
9. Marcus Bontempelli – 1.8
10. Josh Kelly – 1.74

I'll be happy to compile another spreadsheet based on a sample of 50 valid submissions.

Fyfe clearly on top.

Ablett Jnr is currently the best midfielder in the game.

How does it compare to the rest of full forwards?
When Boyd signed with the Dogs for $1 million a season? That would have made him one of the highest-paid players in the comp at the time.

In 2017, even with the gradual inflation of salaries, you still had only nine guys in total banking $1 million or more per year.

According to that article, in 2015, there were only four. That was the first year of Boyd's deal with the Dogs.

So if you use contracts to determine who the best players are, Boyd would be in the absolute top tier. Is that how it works?

Sure you don’t want to pick more Collingwood players. You should smash Melbourne today then. Didn’t pendlebury tag Cripps earlier in the year? Why? When pendles is the second best mid inthe game. Seems illogical.

Pendlebury also went head to head with fyfe last week and smashed him. Was that illogical?
