bit of offseason chat fodder.... ill set out a few scenarios, tell me which player from our current team you would choose to fill each brief

scene 1: Its the grand final, its been a pulsating game but we find ourselves 2 points down with 20 seconds to go, the ball streams into our 50 and is marked 45m out on a 45 degree angle as the siren goes. He has the result in his hands. Who is kicking this pressure kick for you? who do you trust?

scene 2: Its the prelim, its been a ding dong battle, many lead changes but Essendon find themselves trailing by 3 points as time nearly runs out, however a frantic hack out of the dons forward 50 has skewed out of bounds on the full. The dons have a kick after the siren to win it, 25m out on the left boundary line up against the fence. Who is taking your pressure kick here?

Scene 3: Essendon have been undefeated all year, its round 17 and the opposition has decided to flood them out of the game, however to their credit the dons are still in the game, trailing by 2 points with seconds left, We have the ball stationary 75 meters out, the 50 is full of players from both teams moving about, Essendon players are leading into little pockets of space, its last chance saloon, who do you trust to pick the killer pass?

Scene 4: Essendon have marked 65m out as the siren goes, its going to require a huge roost if they are to goal here and prevail, who do you want kicking from out here?

Scene 5: we are playing Richmond and Dustin Martin is in rare form, he has been stationed full forward and kicked 5 in the first quarter, they have cleared out the 50 leaving him to play one on one - who do you choose to curtail this situation?

Scene 1: Brown - keeps it simple, kicks it straight. Doesn't seem to get flustered.

Scene 2: Stringer - let the freak take the freak shot.

Scene 3: Walla - laces out, weights them perfectly.

Scene 4: Daniher - only he or Hartley could reliably get the distance.

Scene 5: Hurley - give him a challenge and he generally accepts. Let him free wheel and he's not nearly as effective.

Fantasia could easily take options 1, 2 and 3 above, Ambrose could take 5 if he could stay fit and return to the form of a couple of years ago.

1. 45m out on a 45 degree angle: Joe. He actually loves that distance/angle.

2. The dons have a kick after the siren to win it, 25m out on the left boundary line up against the fence: Stringer, as it would have to be a drop punt

3. We have the ball stationary 75 meters out, the 50 is full of players from both teams moving about, Essendon players are leading into little pockets of space, its last chance saloon, who do you trust to pick the killer pass?:
I'd say Walla normally, but as it's a dead-ball situation I'd go with Langford.

4. Essendon have marked 65m out as the siren goes, its going to require a huge roost if they are to goal here and prevail, who do you want kicking from out here?
Our biggest rooster, obviously. (Harts).

5. we are playing Richmond and Dustin Martin is in rare form, he has been stationed full forward and kicked 5 in the first quarter, they have cleared out the 50 leaving him to play one on one - who do you choose to curtail this situation?
Dean Wallis. Or Aaron Francis with a length of lead pipe (plays to his strengths)

Scene 1: Brown - has a simple technique, just goes straight almost every time - I rate his demeanor too, seems unflappable

Scene 2: Raz - just has the polish to do these things, another man who wants this moment, banana, round the corner or drop punt..

Scene 3: Reckon Langers has taken this crown, toward the end of the year he was weighting little passes in to perfection

Scene 4: Daniher with the wind up drop punt if the defence hadn't set up on the line yet, but I reckon Stringer might have a decent torp on him if required

Scene 5: this one is my biggest fear, not sure we have the bloke needed (but do any team, really?) I could see Ambrose matching him physically, and being fit enough, but the smarts? not so sure... ill give him a crack at it.

scene 1: 45m out on a 45 degree angle - Orazio Fantasia

scene 2: 25m out on the left boundary line up against the fence - Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti

Scene 3: We have the ball stationary 75 meters out, who do you trust to pick the killer pass? Connor McKenna

Scene 4: Essendon have marked 65m out as the siren goes - Tom Bellchambers/David Myers

Scene 5: Dustin Martin is in rare form, who do you choose to curtail this situation? Andrew McGrath

The AFL are changing this rule next year. Players can do the side-on kick after the siren, as long as they don’t move off their line.

1 Raz, most reliable kick for goal we have
2 Raz, most reliable kick for goal we have
3 Francis, pinpoint inside 50s will become a trademark of his
4 Hartley, only person we have that I've seen latch onto consistent torps.
5 Hurley, but probably hope we win the midfield battle.

The rule barely needed a change, you just stsbd sideways and kick of a step, it's not like you take a 5 pace walk in then kick round a corner

25 seconds on the clock, 5 points down, locked deep in defence. Player X gets a handball receive in a modicum of space 15m out from the opposition goal on a 45 degree angle and needs to disect the zone and deliver a dart to pretty much anyone on half back who releases by hand to a wave of runners going forward.

Who is player X?

Assume enough time to look up, see option, reflex pull of the trigger kick. Any more time and he's tackled.
