Basic thread question but we are now only a few days from the draft so here I thought we could each talk about who we want our club to draft and why.

Now the basic rules of this thread is being somewhat realistic. If you are Fremantle with pick 7 then you are not getting Matt Rowell, or if you are Hawthorn with pick 11 you are not getting Hayden Young so try and pick players you think will be in your clubs draft range.

For Sydney

Pick 5 - Devon Robertson
A bit of a stretch at pick 5 but not a massive leap. The Swans are in desperate need for in and under midfielders who are very good in the stoppages and Robertson seems like the best available talent at that in the pick 5 range. Seems to be a good leader as well, even if some question his disposal by foot, which while not ideal is not so bad for an inside midfielder as their skills by foot don't need to be quite as good compared to an outside midfielder. Seems to be as tough as nails and gets the ball plenty of times as well.

Pick 25 - Cooper Stephens
Not sure if he will be available at pick 25 but if he is then I hope the Swans grab him with both hands as like Robertson he is an in and under tough nut that has no problems finding his own ball. He is also big bodied and with Kennedy getting on in years that is something the Swans desperately need more of in our midfield. Seems to be oddly athletic too given his results at the combine.

So what about you all, lay it on the line and say which players you want, and in 5 years time we can look back and see just how right, or how hilariously wrong we all are/were.

I think this draft has better talent in the 20s/early 30s than a lot think and we should be able to get a couple of good prospects - Realistic for the Lions >

21- Trent Rivers > Cooper Stephens.
29- Will Gould > Dylan Williams.

+ Academy boys Keidean Coleman and Noah Cumberland.

I'd also be happy with Kysaiah Pickett, Elijah Taylor, Jay Rantall, Trent Bianco, Jack Mahony, Will Day or Miles Bergman at 21 and 29.

I want melbourne/carlton to draft one of weightman/pickett. Would allow us to pick a slider at 14 (bids included)

6- Stephens/Kemp/Young/Robertson any of these I’d be happy with or Jackson if still there

22/23 - De Konig, Gould, Rantall, Bianco

Hope to be able to trade up to get one of Flanders, D.Stephens or McAsey. Failing that, with our current picks -

14 - hope someone drops (ie Robertson) - if not Bergman
17 - C.Stephens
24 - Sharp or Gould or Rantall
36 - any of the above or Perez
If the Cats pulled off all those picks (and they're not even unrealistic) it fixes the youth problem very quickly

I’m not sure we really have a youth problem. Our issue is a lack of players in that 24-28 bracket.
Theres a lack of solid contributors at the Cats in the youth brackets. Outside of Clark, Miers and maybe a couple others, it's mainly the older 28+ guys doing the heavy lifting

That’s true. With a lack of high draft picks over the past 10 years we’ve lacked access to elite junior talent.

3 - Jackson
10 - Young (if he slides) - or a pick of those top prospects that slide.
28 - Sharp/D Williams/Ralph-Smith

4 - Lachie Ash - we badly need some agility
6 - Tom Green (match bid) best inside mid and homegrown.
If for a some reason a developing ruck like Nick Bryan isn’t picked up then take him as rookie. Good tap ruckman who could learn from Sauce (unsure where he is speculated to go and whether I’m dreaming).

Pick 11 - any of the top talent that drops to us, Serong or Kemp (Jackson is unlikely to drop, same as Ash, Rowell is a dream, Henry would be nice but linked to Frem, Robertson if best available, we can make it work)
Pick 20-25
(approx) - Finn Maginness
(Trade)late first/early second for our 2020 first and maybe an exchange of steak knives, depending where pick falls and trade conditions, maybe if mid/late 2nd rd we could trade the roos 2nd rder in 2020 for a player we're keen on?
Pick ?? - Rivers, Sharp, Taylor, C.Stephens, Gould, Ruscoe
Last Pick - Mellis, Prior, B.Smith, Bryan/Kelly, Carafa

Only read a handful of profiles.
For our first pick I'd love the best available KPD or rebounding HBF.
As long as they aren't too much of a reach.

For our 3 picks around 40, it's kind of much of a muchness so I'd grab the best available midfielder, KPP, and something different like a mid sized marking half forward.

Robertson Young Henry.

Trade back in to get sharp
I just don’t see how you get Sharp without trading out your future first round pick. Or, trading out one of your second round picks, and then in a separate trade, do a pick swap of your future first for another teams later future first and a current early second round pick.

Wouldn’t d surprise me if freo try & trade future first... they need a few points for Henry too.

If I was Brisbane, I would consider trading our pick 34 for which ever your future second round picks looks like finishing in best position and pick 58. That will likely wipe out all or almost all your debt. And if you carry over a minor debt, it shouldn’t down grade your future first round pick.

Looking at your future picks, you don’t have a future 3rd or 4th round picks, so you’re not allowed to trade out your future first round pick. But you’re allowed to do a pick swap of future first round picks with another club.

You just need to find a team with an early second round pick willing to gamble on such a trade.
