Which players in recent years do you wish the Eagles had given more of a chance to develop and see how they were going??

for me I reckon it was a bit disapointing when Jaxon Crabb was delisted. I thought he should've been given one or two more seasons to see how he was gonna go. He probably wouldn't have evenuated into anything, but you never know. Only spent 98, 99 and 2000 at the club after being a pretty early draft pick, which is a bit disapointing.

There was one draft (97 or 98 - the same one where Embley was picked up at) where we picked up Brandon Hill pretty early, and Michael O'Brien around number 20 and neither of them played a game (I know Hill didn't, O'Brien may have played a couple)

btw, can someone tell me how we got the number 1 pick in the 96 draft to get Michael Gardiner with??

We traded Ian Downsborough to Port in exchange for pick #1 :D

Antonowich should have been kept for another year, see how he went. From what I read about him he had really big wraps on him as a key-defender. His kicking was poor, but he was damn good at keeping the opposition forwards quiet... or so I read on the net.

When Bellotti was delisted I was a bit shocked. Won best first year player at the eagles, only to be delisted a year later (having said that, Donnelly won best first year player over the Norwich Rising star winner Ben Cousins).

Hill is apparently a drug taking alcoholic struggling in a local league somewhere in Victoria. Should have been drafted by St Kilda ;)

Bellotti was a surprise to be delisted. Apart from him, I don't think West Coast let go of too many players. Burton did not appeal to our type of game, Schofield was around when there was an over abundance of midfielders and Crabb was another great WAFL player who did not seem to be able to step up to the pace of the AFL.

Overall, I think WC have made good choices in whom to delist. We have a good record on recruiting.

He is not even getting a game this year. Heard that he moved back down to Mandurah and is thinking about transferring to Peel Thunder. Wouldn't be suprised if he and Miller from East Fremantle were the ones involved in that alleged rape incident that was hushed up by the Eagles. Miller is playing reasonable footy this year.

Buszan left (abandoned) Peel Thunder to play for East Perth with a view to getting drafted by the Eagles - he's now in EP reserves and East Fremantle (not Peel Thunder) were rumoured to have tried to get him to play for them as they are struggling up front.

I think your speculation about the alleged sexual assaults that the WA police decided not to proceed with because of the lack of evidence is just that. Given the timing (from memory, Buszan wasn't even on the list then), I think it's highly unlikely.

So in summary, I'd say your entire post was incorrect, although Miller is playing about the same level of OK footy as he always has done at WAFL level.

In answer to the original question - there aren't many who've gone on to make it elsewhere. I don't think the Eagles have made many mistakes. The one I always wonder about (funnily enough) is Dale Kickett.

Jaxon Crabb - in the few games i saw of him he looked ok, needed a bit more time IMO

Also, i remember Kris Miller looking good in the pre-season competition a couple of seasons back but could never break into the side, thought he looked good

I was under the impression we had a chance to pick up Dean Rioli very early on but overlooked him.

He eventually ended up on the Bombers rookie list to be elevated and play some inconcsistent but pretty decent footy when he is on fire.

Dean Buszan

Dean has had major ankle problems which is apparently the reason he was not elevated to the senior list.
VOR -I know I am taking the bait: but he did not "abandon" Peel - he was a rookie listed player with the Eagles and under the rules operating at the time, he was sent to play with East Perth who were the host club. After he was delisted by the Eagles, East Perth paid Peel a hefty transfer fee for his services. In your opinion, do all players who transfer clubs "abandon" them ?? Or just someone associated with East Perth?
The reason he is playing reserves is mainly because Willo is currently playing full forward at the Royals. Buzz kicked 6 goals last weekend and a soon as Woosha sees the light and returns Willo to the Eagles, I am sure Buzz will be back in the league team. The problem at East Perth is that we have a plethora of quality players :p
Back to the topic, I think David Antonowicz should have been given more opportunities.

Remember a young bloke named Neil Marshall. I only saw him play one game, either 97 or 98 against melbourne.

Had a lot of ticker and a good size.

Neil Marshall is playing great footy for Subiaco at the moment, AFL quality football. Problem is, he has only just started playing that way now :D

Brandon Hill had the goods but not the right attitude. Antonowicz deserved more of a chance to prove himself but based on what he showed we made the right decision. Crabb played well in that final against the Bulldogs in 99 but it all unravelled the following year under Judge. I'm very glad Miller was never elevated. Buszan was unlucky and probably deserved at least one game to show what he could have done.

Buszan moved back to the Peel region around four weeks ago and may receive a call from his former club after Peel lost Scott Simister who walked out on the club this week.

Scott Simister is rumoured to have been approached by East Fremantle

Such a pity we used our top draft pick on him that year, he was meant to be the replacement for Jakovich IIRC

Thats the game that convinced me he could make it - pity he could never go on with it

I'm very glad Miller was never elevated.
Why do you say that??

So youre saying he got on the list because of his connections with KJ??

All i know is that he looked impressive in the pre-season some seasons back and should have got a game or two at least

I reckon Paul Mifka would have been a handy 100 game player for us if he was given the chance.

I remember as a mad keen West Perth supporter being very disappointed when Peter 'The Freezer' Freeman was on our squad list but wasn't able to make it onto the AFL stage.

Crabb got delisted and then picked up a year later by Port. He never made it there either and I think the delisting was right. I expected Buzsan to be elevated off the rookie list but he has a permanant injury that will stop him making it at the top.
The only player I would have kept another year is Paul Symmons, fantastic disposal and has come on more with the Royals. Delisting him after 99 games was tough too.

Well in today's "Pre Game" Simister has been cleared to play for the Sharks. Pretty amazing how WAFL players can changes sides so quick!
