I hate driving in the city. I, personally, have never driven to a game and parked in the city. Ridiculous prices, plus by this thread it seems crazier than getting packed onto the train like sardines! My Dad used to work very close to the MCG. So when we occasionally went to a game (pre-Membership, when I was a teenager), we'd park at his work and walk through the park to get to the MCG. Now, I have a membership, go every game (in Victoria, although this year am going interstate for the first time...to the ACT ;)) and catch the train. It's so easy. Drive to the station, catch the train in (not so bad/busy) then on the way home pack in like sardines (depending on who we play). Much easier than wasting petrol in the carpark trying to get out after the game.

Sick of the Herald sun's sensationalist reporting. Those people chose to park at docklands on a busy evening, you cant go crying foul over it and demanding refunds. You still got the service they provide - that is, a parking space.

Tip for those in the bush. Travel by car and park at a (premium) suburban train station 15-20 minutes away and close to the freeway. Limits the risk of V-Line service issues and keeps you away from the city traffic.

I guess you already knew that but just wanted to make sure. Cars and CBD do not mix.

shinboner magic, no offence taken.

I do feel for those families though; I am sure they just thought it was a good idea at the time to take the kids to see the fireworks and well that car park is right there. I had parked there for years before the Blues 2012 night game without a hassle....and the same thing happened that night...it was just a disaster...instead of my 9 year old and I getting home at midnightish, we limped in at 1.30am because we sat there for an hour and fifteen.

Maybe this car park will be shamed into changing their arrangements before people start changing their minds.
