Who feels sorry for St Kilda - the only drought remaining!

09 was the real chance to break it.

But it is what it is.
It could have been a lesser drought too, they really could (and should) have won in 71.

How close they got in 2009/10 really does mask how badly they blew 2005. Ahead at 3QT at the MCG with a grand final waiting against another non-Vic team off a day's less break. Imagine how different today's AFL might look if Grant Thomas was a premiership coach instead of the game's loudest outsider.

Unfortunately we missed the boat when it came to charity flags against interstate teams like the Bulldogs and Richmond got back in 2016 and 2017.

Back in 1997 you still had to earn a flag without help from the umpires and in 2009 and 2010 we were up against two high quality Victorian opponents.

your team was up by 2 goals in the 1997 grand final.

Umpires are not the reason why your team is crap though.

Nah, injuries got us in 2005. Just too many to key personnel, at the worst time, while Sydney were like Melbourne this year, where they had about 1 injury all year and were able to pick the same team week after week, and they just outlasted us.

We were a better shot in 2004, but the crowd invasion after Gehrig kicked his 100th in the prelim probably cost us that flag. We were smashing them to that point. They hadn’t even been inside 50.

You still had a Brisbane team that had already belted you by 80 waiting for you in the GF. That invasion cost Brisbane a flag if anyone

And people will tell you the draft, free agency and equalization haven't worked, and the same teams dominate every year.

Melbourne, Richmond and West Coast were all basket cases around 2008-2010. They've now won the last 5 flags.

Brisbane, Port and Adelaide were all around the bottom back then too. The Crows have won a grand final and the other two are regular finalists now.

Well when does it become a drought?

Freo 27 years with none at all Carlton is now up to 26 years Adelaide 23 years North 22 and Essendon 21.

Think you should add

Collingwood 1990
Fitzroy* 2001

* as Brisbane Lions taking the identity of Fitzroy.

Anyway Premierships aren’t in the Saints DNA. 1966 was a ripple in time..

Technically you win one every 16 odd years but soon to be one every 18 and maybe one every 19 (if Tassie come in).
So basically anything over 20 is a drought .

This means :

Saints
Freo
Blues
North
Bombers
Crows

All in official declared droughts.
