I think the rules are still that to be eligible for the award a player must have :

  • been under the age of 21 on January 1
  • played less than 10 senior games before the start of the season
  • not been suspended during the course of the year.

For the Hawks I think Brett Johnson stands an excellent chance to get a nomination. What do others think about their young up and comers?

Hafta go for Damian Cupido. One day he's gunna *click* and it'll be woe betide the opposition backline!

Sir Richard Hadley might also be a chance for a nomination if his form holds up and Nathan Clarke's another...actually, Clarke might be over the age limit...not sure...

Daniel Harris, Daniel Motlop, Lindsay Smith. These guys all look like they can put in blinders if they get a crack at it. Harris looks like he is a dead cert to play Round 1, the others may have to wait a while.

Drew Petrie, Dylan Smith and Shannon Watt are also youngsters who look like playing a lot of footy, but their style seems to reflect more consistency than putting in dominating, stand-out performances which will get them nominated for a particular week.

For the Saints we have

Caydn Beetham
Justin Koschitzke
Nick Riewoldt

as possibilities.

Daniel Harris would be a good chance to get the first Rising Star nomination. And hopefully Big Footy's Drew Petrie might get a look in later in the season.

God call FIGJAM ryan lonie for sure and it gives me the greatest of pleasure in also mentioning...ALAN DIDAK.

There wouldn't be many around that know this name at the moment, but come the end of the season, everyone will be hailing him the next Nathan Buckley

I speak of none other than Joel Corey.

Look out, the kid is gunna be a star.

As a fellow Hawks supporter has already stated Brett Johnson for us, but on pre-season form I think that Luke McPharlin has a chance

Why did the guy have to change his number
from 16 to 23. Now my username looks stupid

Ok i think for the crows , chris ladhams, is he still eligable?

Definitely agree MB and STL,

Beetham has to be a huge chance to win the award this year. If it wasn't for his injuries (burst appendix and broken wrist) last year, he would have played far more than 9 games. As it is, the events of last year has placed him in an ideal position to win. Obviously his form will need to stand up but if playing at his best, he is a certain starter in our side and a big chance for the award.

Watching the development of Koschitzke and Riewoldt over the next 2 to 3 years will also be a pleasure to watch. Both may take to develop but will be top key position players in the future.

Fortius Quo Fidelius

Eagles
travis gaspar without a doubt if he isnt injured, he will come close to winning if he plays enough games
other possibilities
dean cox, very fast improving ruckman
dean buszan - 100kg 20 year old ff who has been hindered only by injury
Daniel kerr - showed great potential early

For the doggies, Luke Penny and Robert Murphy the most likely. Watch Murphy - a player with real poise.

Spot on Waltzing.

We haven't received a nomination since '97 (Brown), so if any of these blokes manage to snare one, it would be a huge bonus because our youth development/recruiting hasn't been a strong point in the last few years.

Penny had a solid grounding last year and (i'm hoping) if he gets a decent run this season could get close to getting a nomination. Ditto Murphy.

Another prospect (although painfully thin) is McMahon, who's looked fairly impressive, and apparently got close to BOG for us on the weekend.

Definately Kerr. He has been quite impressive in the pre-season, getting the possessions in the high teens.

Gaspar has been getting big wraps from experts for a while now but is yet to prove himself, but he is apparently better than his well known brother(darren gaspars opinion).

Didak will probably take out the award though.

I was gonna say Des Headland but he's played 12 AFL games. Ah well. In any case, Des is set to fire this year; there have been real glimpses.....
