Preview Who gets the old heave ho for Freo? - Rd 11, 2021

Warren Tredrea is easily our most overrated player, just happened to be the plodder shifted in to the easiest position on the ground in a forward line with great decoys and silver service delivery.

Couldnt hold a candle to Tom Hawkins or Tex Walker and would probably manage less than 10 goals a season if he was playing now.

Said no one ever.

Agree with what's been said about Hartlett, no matter how you put it, you should expect more from a #4 draft pick (our earliest ever).

The purest frustration regarding Hartlett is he was on the cusp of hitting that true elite tier circa 2013-2014, but for whatever reason decided he didn’t want to be a full-time mid.

If he was struggling to come up after going in the guts, okay, fair enough, but — and I’ve made this comparison a stack of times — he had all the attributes to be a superior Elliot Yeo, and instead topped out as a tough attacking halfback in the Zac Tuohy mould.

Still very good, but not the elite bluechipper he should’ve been.

I don't think it's over for Hamish he just needs play with more authority & get a bit of swagger back, there's no other option now he has to pull all the stops he can physically or he won't get another look in.. It's not a bad thing for him in a mental approach sense tbh.

Hammer more than anyone represents the Hinkley years of 2015 to now. You just knew that in a big game, if he made a soft start (ala North 2019), we were going to get creamed. On top of that, he had the potential to be an elite AA player and instead rode it out as a flanker.

Wouldn't say he's the most overrated in our AFL history (reckon Broges take that honour), but he's definitely the one who's under performed the most.

Big game this week.
No excuses for not putting the foot on the throat and blitzkrieging the Duckers.
How many times have we seen Port cruise into a bye week and get smashed the week prior?
Too often for my liking.
Time to play this game like there is no tomorrow.
Hit in hard and be ferocious.
Give them a 100 point shellacking.

It was either a case of his body or his brain not being up to it. I imagine both are pushed to their limits to try and concentrate/play for an entire game, I remember him specifically talking about how incredible midfielders are in terms of their ability and how he just couldn’t keep up.

I think he made the right choice to reinvent himself at half back but unfortunately it seems after 2 very good years he’s hit another wall. I hope his form recovers and he has a good finals series though, could be crucial.

L Jones will be what Hamish only ever dreamed of. Hamish a good servant to the club but never took his game to his highest ceiling.

Soap in your mouth, this blokes efforts single handily won the club a GF at the highest level.
Perhaps watch the 2004 GF again, IMOP he should have been BOG:rainbow:
once again you dont know how to read context, this is not about a single game or year, surely you understand that

My guess is that he did not have the core strength required to be a midfielder, at that time.

Hamish Hartlett suffered in the early part of his career with persistent hamstring injury. He managed just 46 games in his first 4 seasons and that hampered his development. When he first came to AFL football he was a running player who could boot the ball a mile but under Chocco and then Hinkley the long kicking game disappeared and he became yet another short kick specialist. A victim of Hinkley's indirect confused game plans. It has been frustrating to watch Hartlett get the ball near the 50 metre arc and then attempt to short pass to a forward. Hamish Hartlett's career is not quite over but I will always remember him as a player who was thwarted from using his greatest natural attribute- his long kicki9ng.

Probably Hartlett's best game for us was back in June 2012 against Carlton at AAMI when he had 26 disposals and booted 3.1 running through the mid field. Hamish received 3 Brownlow votes that night and I remember thinking, wow this guy can play as he can run and boot it a mile Sadly he never really reached that level again.

Wanganeen is also highly overrated, but he did have 2 very special years
I don't know why PAFC66 cops so much stick when this absolute *head continues to be the worst poster on this forum unabated and unchallenged. Have you ever posted anything that wasn't just shitcanning our players?

Those people who think Roger James is over rated should go take a look at the 2004 Preliminary final against St Kilda. Take particular note of the first quarter when we were getting flogged. For the first half of that quarter Roger James had almost 50% of our entire team's possessions. Without Roger James' first quarter effort and Wanganeen's last quarter heroics and that well orchestrated pitch invasion when Fraser Gehrig kicked his 100 we would not have won that game and the 2004 Premiership.

People are misunderstanding Hartlett. He is a natural back pocket/half back. He has been one of our most consistent performers for five or six years now. This is the first time in a long time he's had a significant down patch.
