Patience...took me a while! Couldnt remember how to spell Ricciuto!

Ah sorry, second time in 2 days :p I always forget that the thread pops up before the poll does..

And you did forget Cousins on the poll. Incredibly inspirational to his teammates and other players.

Until he gets dumped for ditching his missus in his car to avoid a booze bus. Yeah, real role model for the kids at the club

The poll is about who's been inspirational, which I'm assuming is on the field. So unless he was pissed and drove his car onto the football field during a game, left his girlfriend in it and ran to avoid the stadium security, then I fail to see how this has relevance. We weren't talking about role-models champ.

Voss and Hird both equal in my opinion, Leaders both on and off the field.

Carey the best player but shagging team mates missus loses brownie points.

Buckley a good leader but not as good as Hird and Voss (at leading the team not playing ability, so lets not go down that path folks):thumbsu:

Paul Kelly,
Listen to Rocket Eade talk about how well respected he was at Sydney and the things he did on and off field. Eade still says he is the greatest player he has coached.

One story I remember him telling was of when Kelly was first picked up by the Swans and he had moved to Sydney as an 18 yr old and shared a place with a young guy who was an apprentice tradey.
The kid soon quit and moved home leaving Kelly to live by himself in the big smoke by himself, with no mode of transport and some distance from training. He would catch public transport to training a trip that took him at least an hour each way.
If that wasn't enough for him, a kid by himself, in a new place, no family or friends, their was a senior player, who Rocket would not name, who insulted Kelly every training and told him 'just give up, go home, you'll never make it'.

To think he pushed himself to be the best he could be and win a Brownlow along the way is a great story. But noit just that, we has probably the most respected player in the league in his time, right up there with Robert Harvey. The way he went about it. Lead from the front, from start to finish.

There were also stories of how Kelly would push himself so hard in games that he was physically unable to keep fluids or food in his body for hours after games due to the efforts he went to week in week out.

Forget about guys with natural talent, think of the every day guy who busts his gut and never takes a backward step or looks sideways.
Paul Kelly was Captain Inspirational.

Hmmm. Out of your list we have one captain that slept with his teammate/friend's wife and another who belted a teammate after a bad game.

I voted for Paul Kelly.:thumbsu:

There's a clear cut three imo: Voss, Hird, Kelly

Now whilst Hird and Voss have tasted more success, I'm gunna have to go with Kelly.

He took Sydney out of being known as the "joke" franchise of the competition, and instilled a winning mentality and a pride in the jumper that simply never existed prior to him becoming captain. He was the ultimate football warrior who just put club before self every time he played footy.

History will remember Voss and Hird in a greater light, due to their success, so it's up to us to make sure the Kelly legend never dies. Probably the most textbook "champion" captain I've ever seen.

As much as I think Bucks is underrated, this has to be Voss.

He won led his team to three premierships in a row with hardness, aggression and skill.

Top 4 Carey, Roo, Hird, Voss. 1 thing in common. All won 2 premierships each except for voss with three.

Then comes KERNAHAN.

thens kelly,bucks,burke, neitz.
I'd be fine with this but i would like to know when roo played in his second premiership and he certainly hasn't captain the crows to a flag. I do rate him highly as a footballer and a captain. Probably just a poor mans michael voss.
