Nearly everyone at Bigfooty (apart from the Fremantle supporters) seem to agree the past week has been an embarrassment for football and not the kind of thing we want to see at all.

Who do you think has come out the worse it terms of reputation after the trading period?

The AFL - After all, they are the one who set up this system, and agreed to keep the trading period at a week despite calls for it to be shortened to 2-3 days at the most.

Also got itself into hot water over a supposed intervention in the possible trade of Wayne Carey, with Andrew Demetriou apparently suggesting Wayne would be better off at the Swans.

The AFL was also widely criticised for its sudden draft concessions to Sydney and Brisbane, followed by an even more sudden backflip.

The clubs Accusing loyal servants of your club that they are selfish is not the kind of thing anyone wants to see. The cat fighting between clubs, the lying by Hawthorn and several others, the ability to throw anyone out of the club if it meant a better trade....it didn't look good.

The player managers How often did we hear about a player never wanting to play for his club again...through the player manager. And just about every player in the competition who was out of contract had their manager 'mentioning' that they could earn $100,000 somewhere else in a greedy attempt to bump up their salary, and in turn, their commission. The Ben Holland saga seems to have been mostly attributed to his manager.

The players Had the Essendon boys talking about how they would take a pay cut to stick together, but when push came to shove players were whinging and wanting to leave - and not just at Essendon. Players used to argue they only had a short time to make money in football, but all the marketing and media commitments available now means that is no longer a reasonable argument.

These guys are earning wages most of us could only dream of, for playing a game a lot of us would for free - should they be a bit less greedy come this time of the year?

The media My winner for sure. The pathetic efforts of the entire media, both print and electronic, has been nothing short of disgraceful. How many players have definitely 'quit' or played their last games? How many certain trades have failed to eventuate? Half the problems in the past week has been the media reporting rumours, lies and half-truths as facts to the awaiting public, who with nothing else to go on believe it. At least by cutting the trade period and having everyone in the one building, we would cut out all the rubbish the media have told us in the past week.

But what do you peple reckon - who has been the big loser repuation wise in the past 7 days?

Im not sure the media had a reputation to lose GOALden Hawk.

They are always up to this **** and it pisses me off.

The players managers always do the same trick, so same as the media.

With the AFL, im not sure they had much of a reputation. Everyone hates them anyway.

I think clubs may have lost a bit. Because of the Croad saga.
Players being traded that want to play for the club, and have the passion to play, and can add value to a club, and then turning round and round trying to make a decision.
I think this could be my pick, simply because they keep changing their minds etc. (last i heard, the board was having a meeting deciding whether to keep croad or not)

Im not sure that the players reputations have been dented severely, although I believe that some of them are money hungry, which destroys the reputation a little.

if you asked me over a week ago i would have said the club[tigers]losing gasper, holland but with gale the only victim out of all this drama and finally geting rid of daffy and gaining someone to replace gale despite losing our 1st rnd pick we have recovered pretty well.
id say after the dust settles everything will be rosy and glenferrie.
player managers with the likes of griffen and joseph they are more of a hinderence than a benefit to the afl.s image.
the afl well unless your north of the border then forget it.
the media lets face it they will right about anything just to stir things up look at sheehan and his article on the pies B+F proves my point.
cheers!

Frankly the clubs suffer worse out of the whole deal as basically they will lose membership if they try to be daring (Hawthorn) or be inactive during the period (Collngwood) when all Pie fans were expecting them to land a superstar

I reckon the AFL are driving a huge wedge between the supporters and the players. Eventually members will drop off and the AFL can resurrect the whole '6 clubs in melbourne' thing again

Geeze i dont know how you can blame the clubs ...... players through the association WANT the draft so they can move around for more money, player agents play clubs off against each other to get the maximum salary for there player , this in turn leads to pressure on the clubs salary cap and players need to be moved on or cut ..... the only way a club who finishes top 4 can improve there list is by trading 'quality' No other mechanism is available .... so whats a club supposed to do to improve there list!!!!!! Id hate to be a football manager at a club having to deal with greedy players, agents etc whilst still staying within the salary cap AND improving there lists!

Bubba, if the clubs didn't try to poach players off each other as they did in the eighties we wouldn't need thje draft and cap.

At the end of the day they all come out smelling like ****. Some more so than others.
