i was looking through the paper a couple of day's ago and it had an article about this web-site - www.movie-mistakes.com
so i went in and had a look and i just can't believe the padanticnice (sp??) of some people.
There was a total of 122 mistakes on the Gladiator - heres a selection:
How did all the gladiators understand each other? They wouldn't have all spoken the same language...
So do you want some to speak Moroccon, some to speak Egyptian, some to speak Greek, some to speak Latin - how are we supposed to understand them.
At one point, you can see a jet trail in the sky.
Now this seems like a big mistake, but when i saw it, i couldn't believe it. It was so small and was on the screen for about a tenth of a second, i don't know how anyone could've noticed it.
The tigers used in the Maximus vs. Titus battle would not have been used on gladiators, they cost too much, the animals were only used against slaves and people to be executed.
This guy has some serious mental problems. Who Gives a ****. Imagine, if your in the movies and the guy next to you says: "this movie sux, those tigers are more expensive than the tigers they would've used."
In the very opening scene, Maximus sees a Robin perched low to the ground. When it flies off screen the film cuts to Maximus watching it, smiling, as it flies up and away. Robins never do this. They'd always fly off low through the undergrowth.
This is redicolous - this is worse than the expensive Tiger complaint - who could give a flying ****.
In the scenes of the Coliseum the shade of the arena is wrong. There would be two types of tickets shade or sun. One half of the Coliseum would be shade and the other sun. They still do this in Spain at bullfights. The shade tickets are much more expensive of course. In the movie it looks more like closer to noon than four or five o'clock.
This is now getting redicolous. The shade of the movie was wrong - for this reason, and this reason alone, it should be stripped of Best picture.
And you pretty much get the picture.
There were only a few ligimate mistakes that were bad mistakes such as:
In one of the scenes where Maximus is riding for his own home - a scene with fields on both sides of a dirt road, the field on the left has 'wheeltracks' in it - not anything likely to be seen at the time of Maximus - in our time these tracks are not made by driving over corn, but are deliberately not sewn to avoid wheels crushing the corn.
This doesn't seem like a bad mistake, but it was a very obvious mistake and not very good editing or directing at all.
In the beginning of the film at the major fight sequence. When you see the Romans shield themselves with the rectangular shields against the barbarian's arrows and then they charge at each other. If you look closely enough, you can see two Roman soldiers standing there having a great laugh, one pointing a sword smiling, and the other one staring at the ground laughing to his heart's delight.
These guys were obviously camera shy.
At the end of the first battle sequence there is a brief "victory" shot of the Roman army celebrating. Towards the bottom of the screen you can see an obviously dressed barbarian warrior cheering alongside some Roman soldiers. Wonder what he has to be happy about, except for maybe being alive in the middle of that bunch...
Maybe he decided to switch sides - i've known a lot of footy fans to do that.
After the battle with the Germans, the next morning after the tavern, he is walking in the army camp and he feeds a horse a piece of apple. If you look closely between Maximus and the horse, there is a crewman wearing a pair of blue jeans.
absolute classic mistake, i even picked this up without having to be prompted by the web-site.
