The fact that both teams could trade 17 year olds for draft picks was a disgrace and the AFL should have stopped it.
Oh, we tried to do deals for established players.

"It is understood Essendon could have acquired the rights to GWS-linked 17-year-old O'Meara by handing over Tom Bellchambers two years ago.

This year GWS offered up the rights to Jack Martin, considered an astounding midfield talent, for Essendon's Carlisle."

Regrettably, as a Carlton coterie member has recently pointed out, many club back offices are just terribly, terribly bad and thats all there is to it.

I'd take GWS at the moment. Gold Coast have a great midfield, but I think GWS have the greater balance with a potential powerhouse of KPP stocks if they can keep them together.

GWS have played this poker hand very well. People will rage with jealousy and envy.

So, how do you reckon Martin or O'Meara would look in red and black.

Or here's one. Hogan in navy blue.

But the incompetant dumbshits at Carlton werent prepared to offer a player.
Doesnt change the point these hand outs have been well and truely over the top.

Just for the point of it other than Murphy the club captain who should we have offered?

Letting Bryce Gibbs go would have been worth two first rounders.

Kreuzer and your first rounder would have got a minidraft pick, and let Brogan retire on schedule.

Henderson would have got a minidraft pick and a first rounder.

If you want to look at who has the better list look at the Magoos.

How many GC players who can't crack a senior game are on other club's radars? How many will they lose?

How many of ours?

I regularly read the names of Jaksch o'Rourke Buntine WHE etc in other threads as players likely to be poached. I don't recall seeing too many GC 2nds players named. I'm happy to stand corrected and be schooled on the magnificent depth of the suns but going forward I like our depth a lot.

That's why you didn't get a mini draft pick. Don't complain about it now. It's the attitude that did you in. "Not a Chance" put Kruezer on the table and you were every chance. You weren't willing to part with quality so you got nothing in return and nobody to blame but yourselves.

Please how the hell do you know what was offered and what wasnt. I doubt any of those trades the other poster mentioned would have satisfied GWS or GC.

Now, Im glad we didnt waste our cap room on a spud like Kreuzer, and instead gave a chance to Joffa - our reliable ruck option who was picked up for, well, nothing after being sacked by Port.

But the offer was made to Kreuzer, and Carlton made sure they kept him.

Carlton. Not very good at that list management thing.

Very easy to trout off when you get hand out after hand out and extra coin to boot.

Just out of interest where does it say what GWS would have given us.

Oh, nothing much. Just Hogan. O'Meara. Martin. Compo picks. First round picks. Tom Boyd.

Nothing important.

what's this 'it's hard to tell at the moment' nonsense? GWS's list is something else. they will dominate the afl in 2-3 years. gold coasts midfield is better but that changes once ablett (turns 30 this year) retires. whitfield and coniglio are already closing the gap on omeara and prestia.

But GWS has the best collection of young structural players. phil davis in defence with Cameron, patton and boyd. plus better rucks. Buddy was theirs if they wanted him but they rightly decided that he'd just get in the way. I'm not sure of the rules of their salary cap or when they have start abiding by everyonre elses rules but if they can hold onto those players through free agency then it's gonna be a boring few seasons for 17 other sets of supporters.
Who are these better rucks you talk of? GCS young rucks are clearly the best in the league...Smith and Nicholls are jets and Gorringe goes alright...throw in Dixon and Day who can both pinch hit and you have an elite ruck division.

Ruck is a position where GWS has gone for experience, in Mumford and Giles. We've also got Phillips and Downie, but no one is sure what they'll turn into.

Could that better depth be due to the fact you currently have about an extra 8 players on your list, an extra 4 years to reduce your list and have received a heap more concessions and first round picks than we did?

GWS for me - midfield not quite at the level of the GC but still with lots of promise, and the best crop of young tall talent in the competition. Gold Coast has the ruck advantage with Smith and Nicholls at this stage though, think GWS will be looking for a good young ruckman at year's end.

What rubbish no one with any idea would believe that.
You could have had mini draft picks for Kruezer. You do realise that O'Meara was obtained by trading a mini draft pick don't you? Of course you could have chosen someone else with the mini draft pick that would have been up to you, but most clubs would have gone with O'Meara or Hogan.

The picks were on the table. Everyone knew that. We were vocal about wanting decent players for mini draft picks. An offer had been made to Kruezer, that was pretty widely known. Carlton chose instead not to offer anything of value. Everyone knows this too - you know how I know this? Because no trade happened. When no player of quality was forthcoming we went with the best trades we could secure. That they happened to be picks is a matter of history (and rapidly becoming ancient history)

You missed out on O'Meara because your own club had no vision, no imagination and decided to offer nothing. When you offer nothing you get nothing. When you offer a spud for quality you get laughter.

It is time to get over it.

Fair enough. As I said, I don't know anything about the suns reserves.

Our concessions allowed us exactly the same access to first round picks as the suns - 1,2,3,5,7,9,11,13,15

We traded to get others and so ended up with more, but the number of first round picks given to us by the AFL was the same.
We got other concessions above the suns but Let's not try to completely rewrite history here.
