Who do you think we will select in the upcoming preseason draft. It looks like carlton is very keen on Mclaren, Camporale is going to essendon and it looms likely lappin may take the pay cut and remain at carlton. After all this who will we go for???

If we select ryder in the draft will we still hunt for a ruckman in the preseason?

Don't forget that Hawthorn has - supposedly - a lot of money available under the salary cap (Holland, Hay, Lekkas), though its availability for players may be compromised by a desire to get the P&L right in the short term.

If Hawthorn wants a quality player, it might well announce to player managers that there is serious cash available for the right bloke, and you never know what we might be able to lever out of the woodwork.

In short, if we're serious about picking someone up in the PSD, I don't think the list of players available to Hawthorn is yet complete.

While I have never been a big Matty Lappin fan, geez he was good in the IR series. If he slips through, he would offset the loss of Angelo Lekkas as a clever midfielder/half forward flanker.

Otherwise, there would not appear much quality flowing through that would be available at Pick 3.

Do you honestly think Carlton would move one inch on their negotiations with Lappin on the basis of how he played two 80-minute games of hybrid Gaelic/AR matches with a round ball against a team of amateur guys, most of whom weighed less than he did?

Nup - neither did I.

FWIW I think we'll probably look for another tall in the PSD. Have no idea who's available but someone who looks comfortable within 40-50 metres from goal would be handy

The fact that Carlton will not budge may force Lappin to go to the PSD and take whatever other offer he can get!!

Having said that, I think he will probably stay at the Blues (god know why!!) ;)

Neither, Guerra is crap and Lappin just signed. Better off giving cameron hunter, stevie armstrong or dylan smith a go. I reckon we may take Ian "Wingnut" Callinan with a late draft pick too.
They might be crap compared to other players in the comp, but in the PSD you don't get much choice. There's no J. Brown's, Dal Santo's, Scarlett's in the PSD.

Guerra might be crap, but he would get a game every week for us.

Well it wont be McLaren as Carlton have reportably confirmed on Ch10 (04/11/05) that they will take him with their first pick in the PSD.
i think Mclaren is overrated somewhat anyway, yes he was a member of a club that won three consecutive GF's but he was always about fourth in line as far as a ruckman went at the lions and only got his chance when all of Keating ,Charman & Mcdonald went down with injury and it could be said that he really didn't set the world on fire at that.I remember when i was at the 2004 GF and he started in the 22 he looked totally out of his league that day & i was really hoping he'd do well ,him being a local lad and all.No as much as i think he always gives 100% ,i just don't think he has what it takes to be a topliner.Would be no better than Campbell & Taylor IMO.

You have made a good point, MainMan.

We don't need Guerra, no place for this reject at Hawthorn.

Tallan Ames - Ruckman from Swan Districts who is training with the Hawks. As there is a a lack of ruckman in the National Draft it would make sense to look at a mature (23y/o) ruck in the PSD. Would be a good back up for Spider.

agree with all of that, maclaren is a battler at best. we might as well stick with campbell (who is tearing it up on the track already) and taylor.

where is the nick stevens in the preseason draft like a couple of years ago
