The art of big contested marks is becoming less of a skill teams draft given the running style game. But how important do we see it during Finals? Who are the best 3 in league? Ignore kicking ability

1. J Roughead
2. N Riewoldt
3. T Cloke

Cloke does hold the record of most contested marks in a year.

It's a shame that contested marking has been slowly eradicated from the game. The aversion that coaches have to the kick to a one on one contest has removed a great part of the game. The test of strength that we used to see between Dunstall and Silvagni, Lockett and Martyn or Carey and Jackovic ( just a few examples ) are rare in today's footy. Of the present crop I recken Kennedy is the best at standing his ground and clunking the one on one ball. The two Reiwoldts,Walker,Hogan,Hurley,Cloke, Fyfe and Casboult are pretty good. Lake would have been my overall pick if he hadn't finished up but the closest to him is McGovern.

Roughead and Riewoldt aren't great 'contested' marks but they get almost all their marks on the lead through separation.

Cloke, Hawkins, Casboult, Hogan

Depends how you look at it. Cloke definitely springs to mind, but statistically (surprisingly) he hasn't finished in the top 10 for total CM's for the past two seasons. He did however top the leaderboard in 2013 [58], but has only managed about 55% of that in each of the 2014 [32] and 2015 [35] seasons.

In terms of consistency though, Cloke is probably one worth considering. However Hawkins' numbers have been better in past seasons.

Another dark horse that no one has mentioned is Tom J Lynch from the GCFC. 4th for overall CM's in 2014 and 1st in 2015, can obviously take a grab.

Top 5 in no particular order would have to be Cloke, Hawkins, Lynch, Casboult, Hogan.

Over the last couple years Tom Hawkins has been. So he would still have to be one of the top 3
Hogan and Cloke maybe?
Hawkins is the best one-on-one contested mark, but couldn't take a pack mark (in fact he couldn't even get his hands to the ball in a pack) if you paid him. Which we do.
