Out of..

Stephen Hill, Dayne Beams or Daniel Rich in 2010.

From a Collingwood perspective, IMO Beams has developed more than these 2 this year.

He won't maximise his potential until he is playing in his proper position. For now he is being used as a half forward flanker with occassional stints in the midfield. His best position is an in and under full time midfielder in the Joel Selwood mould.

I think Hill and Rich are more talented, but talent doesn't always get fulfilled. I think Dayne is more of a monty to reach his full potential at this stage than the other two.

Obviously this type of question gets asked on the back of a couple of good games by Beams and a couple of less then impressive games by Hill.

Overall this year Hill has clearly been better player. Article in Herald Sun talks about Hill when he gets his hands on it teams has scoring shot 38% of the time. Best in league.

Match that with his explosive pace and silky left foot and he is streets ahead of Beams this year.

Having just had a look at stats it seems Beams would have Hill covered if you knew nothing else about the game.

That said and again it may be my biased attitude. I feel Beams is playing well because he is in a very good team. Whereas Hill is playing well to lift the Dockers out of where they use to be.

Hill is much more of an impact player. Beams well from what ive seen just jumps on board the big wins train.

From what I've seen Hill by a country mile, genuinely impacts games and is a class act in the role he plays so far this season.

In season 2010, Hill and Beams are well ahead of Rich and Hill is probably just in front of Beams. Hill has gotten then #1 tag a few times as well, shows what the other teams think of him!

just like when he kicked 4 goals against geelong when we struggling to score?

I think Hill is the best of the 3 and will have the best career of the 3 also. Having said that Beams has had the best year of the 3 due to not getting any attention from opposition unlike Hill who gets a tag every game.

I rate Beams very highly and think he is going to be an excellent player but when you consider where the two stand in the pecking order of their respective teams then you have to say Hill by a country mile. The fact he has been copping tags all year exemplifies this.

Rich has had an ordinary year but its hard to play well in a team that is playing as poorly as his is, he'll be a good player and I'd be pretty confident will end up better than Beams too. He was sensational last year.

Beams kicked 4 goals on Milburn.
Kicked 3 goals on Russell, when he was touted as a possible AA (yes, laughable).
Kicked 2 goals on Gilbert.
Had over 30 disposals & 2 goals on Embley.

I'd hazard to guess, Hill hasn't played & flourished on this lik of player.

Why do Collingwood fans refuse to accept it when someone else thinks a certain player is better then a Collingwood player?

Give me some of the opponents Hill has been tagged by. When we played them, we didn't tag him & his influence was irrelevant.

Statistics say Beams is ahead of Hill this year.:thumbsu:

Pretty sure Picken went to Hill this week but not 100% sure. I know Jones tagged him back in Rd12. Kane Cornes went to him in Rd14. Smith from Sydney went to Hill in Rd9. I can't remember all others, but confident these aren't the only cases.

By the way, I rate Beams very highly and think he'll go far (mentioned this in another thread) but just for 2010 I don't think he has performed any better then Hill. Fair enough if you don't agree.

Comparing apples with oranges.

Hill is silky smooth and a gem. He stands out more than Beams (despite the ink work) because he frequently breaks lines, carries the footy and roosts it 50+m on the fly. Everyone knows this. A player of rare quality the Dockers have here.

Beams is not silky but he is very damaging in his own right. Is a goal kicking midfielder (proven that thus far) and is very strong and clean for a player of his age. Just look at his attack on the footy vs St Kilda in 3rd qtr 2 weeks ago when the ball was in open space to be won and he just wanted it more than the on-coming St Kilda player- where a collision looked imminent. Acts like these a team-lifting, especially done by a young player.

Rich is also a great prospect. Terrific debut season, suffering a case of 2nd year blues this season. Voss has actually done the right thing by playing him in a different position i.e. across HBF to teach him and make him learn/adapt to a new role because in the modern game, if you are struggling to impact games, you need to be flexible and perform in different roles and positions across the ground- something Beams has been capable of doing across HFF.
