See here is where you blow apart I'm afraid. I wore number 25 on back as a kid - Billy was my favorite player along with Keven Worthington. The fact of the matter is Picken was bannished to CHB from CHF because he couldn't kick. Greg Phillips says Picken is the only defender he ever saw never lay a tackle. Stan Magro was as tough as they come but hardly a highly skilled player. Did you see the bath he copped in the 1980 GF? He was slow. Andy Ireland was a gun HBF and oputside Collingwood never given his due but did you see what happened when he had to man Cloke in the 1980 GF? Phil Manassa would be a nobody to anyone but the Collingwood faithful but for "that goal". These guys did what the current crop did. They lost a couple of GF's to better teams.

Interested on your thoughts of Matty Lokan.

Do you think he has the ability to be better than a bit player.

He may provide drive out of a back pocket and good accountability, but it is also a position often used to blood youngsters.

Can you afford to have a player in your 22 that is able to play a small defensive only - cos let's face it, he's no Wanganeen.
I know he came across as a forward, but he didn't seem to click at any stage when thrown into attack.

I see him as a handy 25th-30th list player who may play 100 games over eight years, perhaps in the mould of Shane Kerrison.
Does anyone think he could be more than a bit player and a potential midfielder.

On the quality of a backman's field kicking....as I said if they can't put the ball in a bucket 40 metre's away when kicking out of defence 95 % of the time they are a severe liability in a tight game against a good team.

On Billy Picken he had the big spoil the big mark and dash out of defence as his abilities which made up for inaccurate field kicking.

Johnno can run and run fast. I'll do a tally this year of blind kicks out of defence, and how many times he goes the sheep dog, the shag, misses tackles and puppy chases.

which back can be described as mightily above average?
