Who is "O'Brien"??

A report over at HotRods about training today..

Woey, Licca (who was the standout for mine), Bucks, Swan, Lonie and our new recruit from Brazil, the young player O'Brien. Initially, he led all the sprints. However, his lack of endurance eventually showed, and he was overtaken by Lonie. Lonie really looks a natural athlete, but O'Brien has a terrific build for a footballer, and covers the ground extremely well.

Who is this? When did this happen?

there was some talk that an O'Brien from WA was training with us. He's in the pool of possible rookie selections. Back pocket, fast, prefers handballing to kicking. Don't know the Brazil connection, or if these are the same two players.

He apparently is of Brazilian descent. I also read somewhere that he paid his own way over here to try and get a run.

Mother is Brasilian, Hertier O'Brien. Played originally at East Fremantle then moved to Claremont. Very quick and can be used out of a back pocket or off a HBF. Reasonable size about him too. Worth a rookie selection IMO.

Yeah, he literally paid his own way over here and asked if he could try out for us. I think a level of determination that great should be enough to get him rookie listed, honestly.

The fact that he could have gone to any team, but chose Collingwood is a plus as well. It's always good to get guys who're going to bleed Black and White.

Sounds like a good punt to me. I'd look at him and Lukey Jarrad in the rookie draft.

Well, we're also training Jackson Barling and Heath Lawry as well, so there is some competition for the rookie list spots.
