're hanley - I figure we weren't allowed to keep him on the international rookie list so he is gone.

As harsh as it may sound I'm not keen on players that have a history of multiple injuries, especially if they aren't proven at afl level. No amount of talent and dedication can fix a body that just isn't up to it - think claye. I hope like hell Skinner can but if I wouldn't put money on him to make any more games than claye. Very sadly. And hopefully I'm wrong. I've been wrong lots of times before.

Skinner will come good and will be a 250 game star for the Lions.

Trust me.

I'm never wrong;)

Skinner has loads of talent, Claye was not on the same skill level ever. Hopefully skinner gets a good run at it.

in Frost's season review it said he was contracted for 2018.

"Frost remains contracted until the end of 2018 and the Club looks forward to seeing his return to the game in the new year."

Conflicting messages- http://www.lions.com.au/news/2016-10-20/frost-becomes-a-lion

List Manager Peter Schwab said that he was pleased to get the deal done, which will see Frost sign for three years.

Maybe his contract was re negotiated this year, dlanod in the roster thread still has him as OOC 2019.

You would think all of them will be in trouble. Wouldn't mind keeping Bewick as depth.
Also isn't Frost OOC?

The others are....dunno about Lyons, Hinge and Eagles...would have thought a lot will depend on their further development next season.

Surprised about Claye. Isn't best 22 and can't see a lot of improvement left in him. Perhaps he's fortunate we failed to attract a readymade midfielder during trade period and it's a weak draft.

NEAFL Captain!
Keep it in the family. 2 Beams Captains.

Might just be we value his ability to be NEAFL depth over the potential for finding a gun to spend a rookie spot on.

Could be completely off and they want to give him one more shot at the big time due to his last name

You'd have to think being Dayne's brother helped him. We have turned over a chunk of the NEAFL midfield (Jansen, Clayton and Grewar), but still have Keays, Lyons and Bewick... plus the pressure on spots from Robbo and Chistensen coming back in. Plus midfield as an emphasis at this draft.

I would have rookied Mick Close instead. Claye's elite disposal by foot does fit into Fagan's game plan though. Hope he has his best season ever.

The game has changed a bit, but assuming Richmond is the new normal is crazy. They happened to stumble upon a winning formula largely because they didn't have many other options. There will always be more than one way to skin a cat, you don't win anything by just reacting to what other teams have done.
Richmond, bulldogs. Mobile is in!!!! Get it while it's hot!!!!!

Even Hawthorne before that. Gunston and roughy very very mobile for big men. Only one big slow cumbersome forward there which was usually the resting ruck.

It's obviously the way our list is going especially if we're only taking mids this draft

Great to see Oscar McInerney and Corey Lyons both signing for another two years. Big tick of confidence for Lyons taken late in the draft and now here for 3 years at least. Reckon he will develop into a decent midfielder with a good tank. Oscar likely to get some games in 2018, with Steph getting older and the threat he poses as a marking forward.

Bit surprised about Corey.

Ah, Corey's only one year - was already contracted until 2018, now until 2019.

Eagles is the one for me , if he can turn into a senior fullback what a bonus! Showed real guts in the finals , watch this boy ! Could be a star in the making
Agree, if he is able to continue the rate of improvement, have a solid pre-season he may well be looking at a workable role within our back-line not only next year but a couple more after that!

Eagles admitted to not being able to come to grips with how to play forward in the reserves. Not sure if he'll be capable to play in the seniors with zones, etc.

My initial thought was similar when reading that... Without disrespecting the craft of a KPF and learning leading patterns and structures ect, surely it's harder to learn defensive zones, defensive body positioning & spoiling
