Eariler this year we were hearing a bit about which player was the most 'complete'. This prompted me to pose the question to myself: if you had a team made up of a bunch of clones of just one player, which player would you take? For me personally it comes down to a choice between Bont and Heeney. Bont has a size advantage but, based on 2026 form, perhaps due to my bias, I lean towards Heeney.

Who would others take?

Luke Jackson is the only player amongst those that could play every position on the ground.

Id personally choose Heeney based on forward craft but I honestly don't know who'd win out of team of Heeneys vs Bonts.

I'd be tempted to go Jackson too but he'd probably be beaten for ground balls by a team of Heeneys or Bonts.

Dawson, NAS and Butters are others that come to mind.

Daicos really shouldn’t be on this list. Tissue paper would put in a better defensive effort than him. He would get absolutely cut up.

Jackson for mine.

Not that relevant but I have often wondered which team would win out of a under 178cm team and an over 196cm team.

So take the best players in the AFL 178cm and under and take the best players in the AFL who are 196cm and over and play a match.

The big team would be hard to stop, as long as the ball never touched the ground 😆

One dropped mark and it's a string of handballs and goal to the littlies

Would love to see this novelty game 👍

Honestly, Pickett with how much defensive pressure he applies as well the obvious offensive threat would be interesting. There would be the danger if he came up against team Bont or Jackson that they'd play keepy off in the air but the ground ball stuff might make for it once a few Pickett clones start trying to take hangers every contest.

Has a 56% career win rate, and played with squads who have continually been in the top 1/3 of the comp for the entirety of his career. 🤷‍♂️

Have they?

For his whole career, the Dogs have continually had a top 6 squad?

Is that so? Through the Tigers era, the Lions era, two thirds of the Hawthorn three-peat, the non-trophy winning Port Adelaide era, the never-stopping Geelong and Sydney eras and the Collingwood mostly being in and around the top era that have yielded 2 trophies in total but almost ceaseless top 4-6 finishes, and GWS having a far better squad than the Dogs and always being around the mark, the Dogs have always had a top 6 squad.

That sure is an interesting view of things.

You've named 8 teams across the 12 years we're discussing, so you effectively agree with me.

Hawthorn years were weak due to expansion clubs. Fremantle and Sydney had a good squad.
Richmond era was Geelong, Port, Collingwood, with GWS and West Coast fleetingly.
Brisbane era has had Collingwood, Geelong and Sydney.

So yeah...they've been, on the whole, a top 6 for squad across the duration of that time (2016 flag, 2021 GF).

Noah Balta would eat this up with his rarest skillet

Team Daicos...Expect zero defensive pressure and maximum internal friction. The heat map will show 100% activity in each other's faces demanding the ball, while the tackle count will struggle to cross 0
