TT I generally agree! However I don't think Fraser Gherig would be going to Collingwood to exactly be the mesiah and bring them off the bottom half of the ladder. More like an extra forward you is dangerous (at times i must agree), but he is a little older and adds experience.

Poor old Collingwood forever - Mick Malthouse was supposed to be the prize coach of 2000 who would make Collingwood a powerhouse, wow 15th this year, way to go!

Now they are looking at Fraser Gehrig and paying him all that money! He can be one of the most exciting footy players around, but his form at the eagles in 2000 was pathetic, and he showed no spirit towards footy in general (By not playing for Perth in the Westar after he was dropped so he could "recover" him his injury, yet only to be seen in Sydney and Melbourne that week!

TT lucas is not over rated, kicked 50+ goals in his come back season in a forward line where lloyd kicked 100 and had others like hird, alessio, moorcroft etc
whitnall isnt overrated either, second in the afl goal kicking and is a powerful player who carries a lot of the goal kicking load on his shoulders and does it well
N.Holland has had a great year, he is not over rated for two reasons, one he can really play and two no one rates him because he lives in the shadows of carey, lloyd, whitnall etc
and kings performance on sat and many others have proven he isnt overrated, kicks a lot of goals from a half back flank and gives the kangaroos alot of drive

carey's ability definatly aint overrated, his consistancy maybe but not his ability
as for hird, where have you been, a brownlow, a premiership, and a great year in 2000

Poor GoEagles - You are the classic example of a person with sour grapes syndrome. Malthouse left the Eagles because they were going nowehere. You must realise that he was right in leaving West Coast. They have a poor list (which will be made worse in the next three years when Jakovich, Macintosh and Matera all retire) You have Morrison and Cousins and a big fat bloke to build a team around - GOOD LUCK!!

Collingwood, on the other hand, has an exciting young list. Aggressive recruiting will see it become better. The board has a policy of recruiting the best player out there. This year it is Fraser Gehrig. he will be at Collingwood next year while West Coast battles St Kilda for the wooden spoon!!

Magpie Mark - I agree that Mick's time at the eagles was up and although I'm not a fan of the new coach, thats not the topic of this post (over-rated players)

Fraser Gehrig did not play with any passion or spirit at the eagles for the 2nd half of this year. I was amazed at the amount of money Collingwood threw at him, because he is certainly not worth it shown on his committment to the ball and willingness to help out his team-mates. I know football is a full time occupation for most of these guys, but teams win games is they show passion, not a big paycheck.

As for the eagles 'poor list' which still has nothing to do with the topic, I beg to differ . We have some exciting young talent under 25 years of age (Braun, Cousins, Embley, Fletcher, Gasper (brother of Darren), Green, Jones, Morrison, Munro, Read, Wirrpunda)

For Collingwood you guys under 25 worth having are Licuria, Tarrant, Davis, Lockyer (Thanks for the memories Andrew!) , Ukovic and... THATS IT!

1. Glen Jakovich is only 27 and still has 5 years in him.
2. Ben Cousins, Chad Morrison and the big fat bloke, who just happense to be a Coleman Medalist, are 3 very good footballers. Add Wirrpunda, Phil Matera, White, Wirrpunda and Banfield, and there is a group of top class footballers.
The reason We have been down in the last few years, is because we are going throught a transition period in which we have had very few 100-150 game players.
We have had either old players on the verge of retirement (eg, Bluey, McKenna, Mainwaring, Waterman, Worsfold) or very young players just beginning their careers (eg, Cousins, Wirrpunda, Braun, Morrison etc,.). With only Mitchell White and Glen Jakovich the only players in between that experienced and youth that are regulars in the starting 22.
When the Eagles new breed of youngsters gather some experience, we will once again be a very good team.

If you can use inexperience to justify your place on the ladder then why can't Collingwood? Oh I forgot they are Collingwood, no they can't have any other excuse apart from being shit, I suppose? And didn't Malthouse comment at the start of the year that Collingwood was at "6 o'clock", you know the rest, and he doesn't expect the team to be a powerful contender for probably at least two years.
