As much as I don't always agree with his "macho man" character and he sometimes acts like a wannabe tough-guy with just words (post match interview about Lloyd), Campbell Brown wins this, especially ahead of the other candidates.

Not to say Hodgey or Lenny aren't tough but Brown is the type of player opposition players and supporters love to hate but would love to have him on their side.

He hits like a sledgehammer without any fear of what may happen to him in the process. Always makes for great viewing when the commentators pump it up too.

spot on.
Talks alot of shit, but watch Hawthorn (or the suns) every week and you can only then appreciate how much of a maniac he is.

Ben McGlynn is as tough as they come and body lines the ball on every single occasion.

He attacks it as hard as anyone in the league.

No Liam Picken option? Or Dale Morris?

The guy would run through a brick wall that has caught on fire to get the ball. Or the guy with the ball.

Absolute machine.

Beau Waters.

And surely atleast one selwood deserves to be on this list.

reminds me of that cowboy in Tombstone who was one of the bad guys & talked the talk when he was in the majority but turned tail when the chips were down.

perhaps even like the wizard / teacher in one of those harry potter movies played by kenneth branagh.

if it was a poll for a sniper who was admittedly good at lining someone up, then "footsteps" waters would get my vote.

Really the kid has never backed down for half a second in any situation. Just because he destroys people with lethal bumps doesnt make him a sniper. He's Tough as nails.

I think DeBoer will be a regular on these lists over the next few years as his reputation grows.

His attack on the ball is borderline suicidal. Apparently his nickname down at the club is 'brick wall'.

Went Hayes for a proper vote and Ziebell because I'm biased.

Think all 5 had a claim, along with Firrito, Jono Brown, Matt Thomas? I think he's the one from Port I'm thinking of, and Jordan Lewis.

edit: going through the thread, which I didn't originally, I agree with Dale Morris, Jude Bolton and Matt de Boer all being worthy candidates

Waters never pulls out of a contest. Please find me one?

Kerr used to be but in my eyes he doesnt exist any more and has retired. Adam selwood is decently tough but he fakes high tackles which detracts. Joel is even tougher.
Glass again decently touch but not as tough as waters.

Talking about Joel or does it run in the family?

Went with Hayes and Hodge, couldn't split them.

+1.

Luke ball and sam mitchell go alright in the hardness stakes as well, as most inside mids do.

The St Kilda school girl deserves a mention as well, taking on ricky nixon is no easy feat.

Runs in the family :thumbsu:

Troy Selwood was involved in a massive hit in 2009 both players just going for the ball.

I think he was delisted at the end of that year or last year.

The collision isn't necessarily the tough part its just the way they go about it.

I went Lenny Hayes, i'm pretty sure he's Bruno Mars in disguise (a real good one) but in terms of football. catch a grenade for ya
throw my hand on a blade for ya
jump in front of a train for ya
you know i do anything for ya
always think of him when i hear that song. just goes hard at it every single time, would do ANYTHING to lead his side to a premiership. the other dudes are tough and hard but it has to be Lenny for me.

Hayes is a gun, but wasn't too big a fan of his "tough" showing here.

Lenny chooses handbags at dawn.

Nifty sway back to avoid the punch by Didak though.

I don't really think it's fair on Ziebell to compare him with blokes who've been around 6 or 10 years.

Campbell Brown really let himself down during & after that Essendon rd 22 match. As much as I dislike the guy and the way he played the game when he was a scrag backman, he always had walked the walk before that. Didn't go near a big bloke all day.
1 poxy effort sticks in the mind.

Wouldn't put him up against the really hard inside blokes, those guys (Kirk, Hayes, Sewell etc) get & give more hits, crunches, collisions & tackles than anyone.
