Imagine if we were playing the GF tomorrow, you're in your seat waiting for the action to begin, when up on the big screen flashes a late change

Out. Frawley
In. Warnock

You'd walk out of the ground... no doubt Frawley is our best/most important player as of July 2011.

Jamar was a strong rival to the throne until recently when it became apparent Stefan Martin and Max Gawn were a handy combination in their own right.

Sylvia is a gamebreaker but we could win a big game without him.

The only player in that list who fits the 'if X is BOG, we win' is IMO Davey.

That said, Frawley (the only one who would consistently get in a best-22 for the comp.)

I'm not sure what your you're talking about. ;)

How about discussing my legit comments?

This is where my extra 4 years of BF experience comes in.

If someone makes a post with intelligent comments that you agree with, the obvious reply is to mock their grammar.

If the grammar is correct...well....one must....um....not sure really, the grammar is almost always incorrect. I normally just don't respond then.

I find these threads hard, I want to pick Frawley because a rock like him in the back lines is essential but on the other hand if you get Sylvia on a good day he is unstoppable. [consistency is an important part of the discussion IMO].

Frawley has dominated his position in games we've lost while Sylvia has had 37 possessions & 4/5 goals in a bit loss. [I'd say Frawley wins and dominates his position more often than Sylvia]. How do you equate a position with such players, is it simply best player or most important position? [A mixture of the two. A star wingman, for example, will rarely be more important than a star CHF].

Then there is the other questions:

- Jamar because he gets the ball to Moloney or Moloney because he gets the ball out of the center? [Probably Jamar because the drop from Jamar to Martin and Gawn is bigger than the drop from Moloney to Sylvia, Trengove and Scully. If anything, Moloney is only marginally better than those three].
- Jurrah for his enigmatic nature or McKenzie/Tapscott because of their never die nature? [Effort and flair are good but we should demand results].

And on I could go. That's why in many of these threads I take a long time to vote because it takes a long time to quantify what makes someone more essential than another. [Of course. It's also position dependent. Come up against Hawthorn without Frawley and we're ****ed but might be able to survive without Jamar. Come up against Fremantle and it's the other way around].

In before someone says: "its just a poll idiot!" [it's just a poll, idiot!].

A slightly more comprehensive response.

If your years on Bf have taught you anything - which they haven't, then you could have worked out how to break up a quote. :p

Actually on a serious note your added comments in bold are exactly how I think about it, so many variables amongst so many players but quintessential properties that are required, which to me are intangible because you may need any one of them at any time.

I also look at it like: if you had 22 of the exact same people playing (a cloned team) who would you pick?

To me that comes down to Sylvia & Frawley.

Just adding text here so that I fulfill the 6 character minimum. I hate that it's 6 characters, not 3, so I can't just write "lol" as a response. Really, "lol" is a suitable response for most posts on BF.

lollol

Got to say I'm stunned to see Frawley so far ahead of Moloney (my pick) and Russian not given one vote. I look forward to the day when we ask this question and all of our players get at least one vote.

If anybody ever remembers it would be interesting to do a thread like this once a year.
Maybe even twice, pre & post season.

Its amazing how thoughts & preferences can change over a summer or one bad game in round 22 or the pre season cup.

Very hard question.

I cannot split between Frawley (our most dominant player) and Moloney (heart beat of the team).

As much as I love Jamar, I think Martin has filled his role very well, so we might be able to get by without the Russian (would still be a big loss though).

The OP sold Frawley and tainted the poll.

Moloney is the bloke you'd want next to you in the trenches.

(not that id complain with Frawley)

This is a thread that has had thought & effort put into it, please treat it as such.

Thanks.

Not particularly, it was just an idea that floated to me while I was not doing homework. Was interested to see where Chip really stands in our team.

Haha I did sell him! I'm a ranter/rambler, TL;DR is kind of my style.

He was just having a crack at me, which failed by means of your innocent response. Lol! :D

But this is a thought out thread & deserves respect.

Carry on.....

By the way, I'm trying to find a post that I made about Frawley many years back doubting whether or not he would make it as a defender :p

Thats the stuff you never bring up.

I'm sure you know how to search but do an advanced search for the board only & looking for your posts with a key word like Frawley.

How long ago? I remember some hate for him back in about 09.
