Were you there in the late 1990s? The only reason Wild got games was because he was a Tony Shaw favourite. That's it. There's no other reason. He didn't play 70 games because he deserved to be there.
I didn't get to many games in the '90s but caught most on TV. At least half of our late '90s players wouldn't get a game today.

And Matthew Francis at CHF, he played about 50 games with us during that time, I can't recall one aspect of his game that was even slightly good.

Might be interesting to note (or not) the great man absolutely tore it up in the Ovens & Murray for a few years in the mid naughties. Captained Yarrawonga to a flag. Was noted for - as previously mentioned - an incredible attack on the ball. If I recall correctly, I remember the Border Mail publishing a congtratulatory letter from Tony Shaw to Jason Wild - I think it may have been for his BOG medal for the 2006 flag, but can't recall completely. Had the pleasure of chatting with him a few times, really nice guy.

At that level, he could really play. Big-game player

No matter how bad things get they can't be as bad as the Shawry days when Jason Wild got a regular game and spent all of his time on the ball, I cringe at the memory of those days.
Really is off season......
I miss Terry Keys more.

Brian Taylor and Ronnie McKeown had more claim to a spot in the 1990 premiership side than Keays did....not to mention Alan Richardson although he wasnt a kpp. Keays was possibly the most egotistical player in the history of Collingwood....well up until 2015 when Nathan Freeman decided to give him a run for his money. Cant recall another player who oveerated himslef quite like that.

From memory Keays had a couple of huge games in the reserves late in the year and kicked a bag of 10 or 12 in the last game of the season. Somehow he decided that he was superstar because of it. However the seniors won their last three games by an average of about 13 goals so he was never likely to be called up. I believe he didnt even bother celebrating the premiership with his "mates". Went on to to have a tremendously mediocre 25 game career for Richmond to go with his 20 for Collingwood.

Round 20, 3rd last game in 1990 Hawthorn thumped us by 80 odd. I know I was there. Check your facts club legend.

Give me Wild over Keays any day of the week. Keays was just a big kid who had a bigger head.

OK the last two games we had massive wins...I got it wrong by one. I am well aware of the close loss to Essendon followed by the belting by Hawthorn and then the easy wins.

To assist you with your poor comprehension, I will restate as follows. Keays was dropped to the reserves where from memory he kicked a bag or two and as a result felt he deserved a recall. I dont have access to Reserves records so going by memory... hence the qualification "from memory"

Michael Christian was also dropped around that time too and didnt get a recall until the West Coast replay. That might have pissed Keays off as well as he came in to replace Bryan Taylor.

I was wrong too. You've been promoted to a hall of famer I see. With such a lofty bigfooty position I just think it is incumbent upon you to maintain some standards please and at least get it factually right when you post about our premiership years.. not that many of them in recent lifespans you know.

I got it pretty much spot on except for the number of huge wins we had at the end of the home and away.
It doesnt really change my point that Keays was full of himself.

Not sure why you are being so abusive.
Can you please point out where I've been abusive? I know I'm being a pain in the arse and a tosser but I don't think I've been at all abusive to you just because I took umbrage at and pointed out your incorrect recollection of footy fact.

Dropped after the rd. 20 Hawthorn debacle, Keays only managed 1 goal in the Reserves in rd. 21 but kicked 7 in rd. 22. That would have been the last game he played for the club at any level (the reserves didn't play finals that year).
