Your saying he is not a top 6 because his results at 7 are not good enough? At state level when he is batting higher up the order his results are ok to be considered a top 6. You are obviously a hater and only see the bad (or a troll) but there isnt a lot around at state level so you need to work with what you got and he has up side. Most said Symonds was never going to make it...
of course he can only bat where he's put... and having little other young options at state level is another valid point (several hampered by injuries, or plainly crucified by CA politics/ heirachy). but he doesnt play like an international top 6. i see him in the same light at cameron white - a bowling all rounder at a young age, then found out that his bowling was not up to scratch to take him to the top level so was forced to work on his batting. i know his shield records are ok (made a big score or 2 against the deadbacks), but he just doesnt look like a natural top 6 bat. it's great he can slap a few zacks in the ipl, but the way i see it is he'd be a handy 7 or 8 if he could bowl.
roy was a brute of a player with that x factor that could change the game in an over or 2. i think a lot of people could see that potential, but just had to wait for it. i dont see that same game changing key player potential in smith.
but i'd love to be proved wrong and have all my posts saved and quoted when smith bats at 5 or 6 and tons up one day to win us a game. cos god knows australian cricket needs it.
