Pretty straight forward, obviously some water to go under the bridge given we're just starting preseason, but at the same time my need to procrastinate hasn't suddenly disappeared just because the season has ended... I tried to go most likely to least likely, or there-abouts.

At the moment the club seems to have a bit of a dearth of leaders that could step up into the captain role. We have a lot of "almost theres", geary seems pretty fit for the job but doesn't really inspire with his on field performances, ross is kinda good at everything, not great at anything, Carlisle has all the tools but seems a bit of a loose cannon which would probably rule him out. For me though it's Hanners job to lose. He speaks better than anyone at the club, when I watched his interview last night it made me want to get out there and attack preseason with flag winning determination, and I despise running (unless there's a ball involved). He also knows what it takes, he's been to the big dance and taken home the cake, and from the few games he played at the back end of last season he looks just a class above - nothing fancy, but just faster decisions, harder at the ball, tidier with his disposal, a true pro.

A few smokies in there, steele, dunstan, both not quite there performance wise, dougal howard could come out of nowhere but can't see him getting enough faith until at least 2021.. Billings another, but can he fight? That's the real question.

But specifically this poll is for who it should be, not who will it be... (that's for you plugger).

Also there might be other polls on this, but like bread, polls are always better fresh.

I think it should be Ross.

With a new coach and new look playing group, I think it is time to move on from Geary and start fresh. Ross is the only feasible choice and would be a worthy captain.

Hannebery would be a great option, but there is no certainty about him playing every week which rules him out.

And a next captain isn't going to be someone who wasn't in the leadership group last year. That leaves the only other two options as Billings and Membrey, and Ross comes across as a better option than both of them.

Dual Captains is fine by me

Geary as captain restricts selection, as he might not be best 22 next year. You had Savage doing a pretty good shutdown role late last year, and McKenzie has shown ability in this role in the past. And who knows what Zac Jones' role may be.

Ross' best portion of the season form-wise was after Richo was sacked (save Round 4 v Hawthorn). As there is no standout candidate, I selected Ross because his form warrants selection in the side anyway and he did show some leadership via form after Ratten took over.

I think it is imperative that we replace Geary as captain this year. Geary is more of a dour defender type without being brilliant and can be poor with his disposal at times.
It's time to replace him with a player who will get more of the football and contribute more to the side. Seb Ross seemed to thrive in the role of captain last year when he took over from the injured Geary during the season. Seb had a better second half of the season than his first half in my opinion.
Seb Ross for me with Hannebery to be his support.

Can we rename this thread to the Steven Bradbury? Because seriously there is no contender and it will be the last man standing. That means Geary.

God help us if Seb Ross is considered the best leader at the club.

The best captains are Geary and Brown but neither are guaranteed to be top 22.

I really hope it's not Geary. I don't think he'll be best 22 at the end of the year, especially coming back from his leg injury...

You maybe right about Geary not being in the best 22 next year but DMac is not in the best 32 IMO

Ooohh the insane one! Hmmm that is very left field my friend, if not a little on the nose! 🤭
Perhaps he could be a Pepe La Pew style captain! Inspiring the players by seduction!

I'm advocating for Ratten to take the job! Capt-Coach let's bring it back! 70's style! Complete with Porno tache, bushy sideboards and a headband!
We could do with his ball winning abilities! And even in his current condition
He would probably outperform most of our current candidates!
And make Roughhead VC.....With Billy Slater as deputy!
Or we could revolutionise the whole leadership concept alltogether and give Danny Sexton something to do next season!

Failing all those wonderful proposals, then heady for the Dunny! Maybe Co Captains the Spook and Spunk show! Oooohh that's a bit saucy! 🤤
Sorry, i meant Spook and Skunk of course!

Changed my vote to Gears.
Since l don't want Ross getting it, and no one has yet demanded selection, Gears is still the man.

We know what Gears' future holds so far as his career goes, and he's still a safe pair of hands for the top job.

If Seb can't clean up his ball use then he aught be gone at seasons end, which we couldn't really do if he's our Captain.

Steele and Hanners as co-captains would be my preferred, but that's only based on the hope that Jack will grow into it.

So with 2021 in mind, giving a year for Ratts to sort the wheat from the chaff, Hanners to find fitness, Robbo to test his dicky ticker, Steele to find an offensive game, Coff to cement his spot, Ming, Bytel, Clav to debut, settle 5 recruits into the squad and implement a new regime. There's more than enough upheaval to deal with already..

Gears is still the man.. 1 more year..

I find it funny your reasoning behind Ross not being an appropriate captain is his ball use and suggest we should trade him because of it, yet are calling for Geary to keep the job next season.

A bit of contradictory views there.

Well since I didn't say that in the first place, it's no wonder you find it funny.
But to make it clear, I don't want Seb as captain weather he cleans up his ball use or not.
I can handle it with Gears because I expect him to be out of the 22 in 2021...
