why Sampi??

I guess its hard to think of anyone else, which is unfortunate for the kid cause hes been great.
Unlike Matera he doesn't lock the ball in the forward 50. Too often the ball is rebounded from his side of the ground.

If it makes you feel any better you could always consider him to be an Armadale lad, then it wont hurt so bad when he's kicking goals against you.

I would drop Sampi before Braun. Brauny hasnt been getting alot of disposals but he isnt getting a whole of on field time either, when on though, he does a lot of the things that dont show up on box scores. Smothers, chasing, accountable, second efforts. He should be in the side.

In Read
Out Sampi

We need hard running and tackling players for a derby. Sampi is going to be great but currently is icing on the cake.

Cox will rebound and the Gardy/Cox combination has served us well.

McDougall and Collica are not AFL fit. Johnson would be a gamble but a derby debut would need a lot of confidence.

I'm puzzled about Adkins. He's a midfielder that isn't getting a game. Yet we traded a decent half forward for him. And we could do more with an extra half forward on the list than another midfielder. I was hoping he would be a regular. Was it a poor trade? Thoughts?

Yeah, it's a strange one. He played really well for Perth on Monday and looks the goods. Seems to have very good skills and pace to burn, but I would suspect he is behind Chambers in the queue, who is a player with very similar abilities. It may have been a bad trade, especially with the form Williams is showing with the Pies.

Oh, and FWIW

In - Read, Johnson/MacDougall, Collica (if fit)

Out - Sampi, Cox (needs a run in the WAFL to find the footy), Carroll (if Collica is fit)

Before you do a list of ins and outs, the first thing that needs to be done is a list of match ups. The players you require may vary from week to week depending on the oppositions make up. eg. you can play a smaller backline against the Dogs, but talls may be required against the Tigers.

That's the tactical approach, rather than the heart strings.

My decision is based on the fact that Carroll is crap. His only possible advantage for this week is the fact he has inside knowledge of a few of the Dockers such as Waterhouse, Cook etc

That's exactly what i did with my ins and outs. Collica is perfect to match up on Waterhouse, we don't need another ruckman against Freo (Johnson/MacDougall or possibly Jako can back up enough), and Read has to come in to cover a small forward.

And it would make victory even sweeter if we got to say that we beat them with Carroll in there ;)

He's a future trade - Adkins will play mainly on the HFF for us, and when we are a premiership hutning team around 2005, he would be of much more value to us than Williams would've.

Adkins is a very talented footballer, don't worry about that.
