Roast Who should be our next coach? [melty]

What he does do, is tell your team they're 8 years off being winners. That type of shit has a huge impact on a club mentally. Look at our actual worst enemy, Sam Mitchell. Do you think that's the kind of language he uses on his playing group? No.
I barely follow off field commentary and even I know that isn't what he said.

How are so many people still misconstruing the 8 year thing? Do we need to create and sticky a thread that clearly shows what he said?

I actually do not think we have a better list.
As for losing to the GC twice or the Saints . That is what average sides do.
Agreed. List is all relative to the ability to execute a game plan. You could grab 22 AA's, throw them together and not make a good team because they don't complement each other. We have a bunch of players that could be part of successful teams, but not together.

Building the core of the side for the next 8 years, which is a comment on list build and club culture more than coaching but melters gonna melt
Brad Scott said:
Essendon fans should be really excited that outside of a few veterans this group has the potential to play together for the next eight years, and I include Gresham, Duursma and McKay in that.

“The nucleus of what we have got is here. That is where the bulk of improvement is going to come from."

In my view we're too early into the rebuild to be blaming the coach. Look at our players. Martin, Perkins and Tsatas were all poor defensively yesterday. McGrath is competent 50% of the time. We have a 30 year old Shiel playing + Laverde and Goldstein on the list. And Parish. And Cox.

Martin needs to be better defensively but probably gets a pass because he's an offensive weapon. A pass. Should he be in the leadership group if you want the group to develop a defensive mindset? Probs not.

Tsatas gets a pass because he's young and probably not a known quantity yet.

The rest of those players named are a reason we're stagnating. No coach is going to extract more from them. But because we also have a dearth of leadership in the playing group we also can't just cut all the deadwood all at once. Maybe this is what Brad learned after axing Petrie, Firrito, Dal Santo and Harvey at the same time. How long did that set North back? And our deadwood is worse than those four players. We'd love Boomer Harvey in the side right now.

Our problems run deeper than the coach. A good lot of our list are treading water and we couldn't cut all in one.

I still think we should target Kinnear Beatson. Team him up with Rosa.

Two list managers. Outside the box🙂

Doesn't necessarily have to be in a managerial role in his declining years. He specialises in list strategy and has a proven record though and would be an invaluable mentor for Rosa.
Idea is good. Think that is the role Rohan O’Brian has now. Former Eagles list manager.

Did he build the 2018 list?
He was at the Eagles for over 20 years. Recruiting manager then list manager and yes he was there for 2018. 👍

You guys might not agree with Hird coming back but I bet the players would all be on board. It's inevitable...
There are 3 players on our list that were on the list last time Hird coached. A second year Merrett and a first year Langford/Laverde.

Just stop embarrassing yourself.

i wish we had a coach that could develop players like Hirdy developed Merrett
