Yes that time of year is just around the corner. Hard decisions will be made (hopefully), but can we afford a clean out? If yes who should go?

Knights-gone
Hudson-gone
Sziller-gone
Torney-gone can't believe it.

D Kellaway-poor disposal may struggle to stay on the list.
C King- too soft must go
Biddiscombe-must go pleaseeeee!
Poyas-Don't Know?
Rogers-may be reinvented as a tagger if so bye bye DK
Vardy-Not good enough for elite level should go.
Homewood-too injury prone
Hyde-Don't Know?
Mills-Don't Know
Cameron-time to go old fella
Dragicevic-should go (so sad)
Houlihan-Dud please go
Ednie-Put some muscle on or go pee wee
Pettifer- Maybe one last year

I doubt you want a club with 20 new recruits. And only 7 key position players altogether....what type of player/s are you targeting to replace this lot BTW ?

Poyas ??? we lack tough midfielders...Poyas is one of the answers ...not the problem.

Homey, vardy get another go. Muscle didn't stop Ednie playing well this year...Hyde and Mills showed promise.
Cameron has still got foot skills. Pettifer would be trade material. Dunc could go back-pocket for a while longer, unless another club was interested. Dragga and Hools could stay simply because of the number of guys already out the door.

Agree with King, rogers, bidders. Believe we need 9 new ones.
5-6 on-balls. 3-4 talls.
Good work cracker !

We need to change our list to have:

  1. More hard, quality midfielders
  2. Less skinny, flashy running players
  3. More tall defenders
  4. Forget this preoccupation of finding a crumbing forward. We nominally had 4 of them on the list this year, none of which did us any good (Hudson, Pettifer, Houlihan and Krakouer). This are spots that could be used by class midfielders / tall defenders. Something that we need.

To this end, in response to your comments:

Duncan's kicking skills are a liability but while we lack hard midfielders who can win the hard ball, he will continue getting a game.

I am of the view that we can't afford to have both Ednie and King in the same team - both too small. King gets the ball in tight OK but is frightful with his delivery. Ednie also appears a much smarter player with a natural football brain. Don't forget that Ednie is also about the same size as Brent Harvey was when he started. Keep Ednie. Goodbye King.

Biddiscombe - was only on the list as a true 'Reserve' player. Will go.

Poyas was stuffed around with his contract mess up. If he chooses to leave we won't be able to blame him. Nonetheless, he is a reasonable midfield/small forward option and should keep.

Vardy - another 'Reserve' player who isn't up to scratch. May only survive because of our dearth of tall defenders.

Homewood - not good enough.

Hyde - see my opening comments. He is the type of player we have too many of. Goodbye.

Mills - has had plenty of chance now but hasn't set the world alight. Still, he is a tall, strongly built midfielder/forward like Poyas and fits the type of player we need to procure. Should stay.

Cameron - Either carrying an injury or is past it. If it is an injury, he should continue. If not, then farewell!

Dragacevic - What we know is that he is a strong midfielder with the ability to cut it at the top level. The only question is whether his knee can see out a season. He is another I would keep.

Houlihan - Another skinny flashy running player.

Pettifer - Needs a decent feed and some quality time in the gym. This kid can mark, run and is a beautiful kick. He has a lot more potential than Tivendale because he is not so one dimensional. I would keep him because I see him as possibly developing into another Kane Johnson type player.

both the kellaway brothers are a joke and should be told to clean out there lockers.we dont need these 1950's throwbacks at our club.

Nice post CJ ... if there's one rule of thumb that we should abide by, it's to err on the side of youth. We may still make mistakes in our trading/recruiting - after all, every club does at times - but if we err on the side of youth, it's far more tolerable ....

Not sure that we know this ???
Has put in a couple of decent efforts but "strong midfielder" is a tad ambitious.
His best has come as a crumbing forward, something we have plenty of.
For me,the jury's out.

Seth.

Poyas I think has been criminally underused in his three seasons at the Tigers. Showed more in his three games then Pettifer will in his whole career. (did someone compare Pettifer to Kayne Johnson?)

Watching a bit of the VFL Prelim the other week, Poyas was playing on the half-back flank and seemed to fit in quite well. Could this be a position he could be tried at next season if he stays (a la Bizzell)?

Rogers with about 8 weeks to go I thought was a certainty to go, but he may have saved his spot with his last batch of games at the end. As a tagger I'd rate him a more skilled version of D. Kellaway. I'd keep him before Cameron anyway.

Vardy is a dud, reminds me of 'Birdman' Evans - has VFL written all over him. Never looked up to this standard.

I said Pettifer had the potential to possibly be a Johnson type player. I acknowledge that potential and $2 will get me a cappucino at the shop downstairs!

Still think he is better suited as a midfielder/forward. He has the ability to mark and is a beautiful kick. Question on his pace though!

Agree! Give Rogers a job to do and he goes OK. He struggles as ball winning midfielder. Why we didn't give him more game time up forward, I'll never know! He has been proven as an effective forward.

I think Homewood has to go- he hasn't done a thing. Which means we have to keep Vardy. Assuming we draft two talls, what are the chances of either of them being able to step in? Unless some club does a St Kilda and throws some Wakelins into the recycling bin, and we get a first pick.

I'm sick of bloody Hyde. Get rid of him too. And Mills has got one year to prove he's an AFL player or go. Pettifer needs an allmighty boot up the jacksie- a la Hilton 3 years ago.

D Kellaway- keep
C King- let go
Biddiscombe- let go
Poyas- hmm, keep
Rogers- keep
Vardy- let go
Homewood- let go
Hyde- not sure of his abilities
Mills- as above
Cameron- a tough one, give us a younger version!
Dragicevic- aww, keep
Houlihan- let go
Ednie- keep
Pettifer- keep

6 keeps, 5 let go's, 3 unsure.
