It's McGrath, and I will enjoy all the tears from the haters when it happens

Wasn't there talk that plenty of players came out after the Zach situation that they prefer Andy McGrath leadership style anyway.

Personally I’d love to see McGrath who is a natural leader/mentor/professional off the field share it with the uncompromising style that Durham plays with.

Just because players prefer it, doesn’t mean it’s a good thing.

I’m sure the players all loved Heppell as well.

I don't know if players said that. I don't recall hearing that. I think it was just inferred by people that that was the case

I think it'd be a time to go for co-captains still. McGrath and Durham or McGrath and Martin. One as the arm around the shoulder and the other as more the lead by example. Share the responsibility. The other of Martin/Durham as VC. Caldwell, Langford, Redman and Roberts rounding out the leadership group

My sense is that he’s a Heppell style leader - easily satisfied and undemanding of the group. Which, to be fair, is all he ever knew at EFC until Zach took over.

Nothing I’ve seen on field from him has suggested otherwise to me.
This is my read on him too. But there is a place for that, especially if the younger guys do buy into that style more. Its not what I would want but if it works for them... Which is why I am liking the idea of co-captains who are on the same page but balance each other out

Doesn’t the last however many years indicate that it doesn’t work though?

An approach that's perceived to be too cold and hard-nosed probably isn't the best thing for a bunch of kids who need more support and encouragement through their development. They're still learning and they'll make mistakes along the way, giving them a bake for not meeting the skipper's impeccable standards will most likely be counterproductive.

If there's a bunch of mature players who should know better... different story

Flags have been won with co-captains so it can definitely work. But would need to make sure synergy is just right between them so that's something only people inside the club would really know
