I like Murphy, think his game will stand up and has performed well in the past

Not big on Kuhnemann, don’t think his bowling will suit Australia. He far exceeded my expectations in India and Sri Lanka

Rocchiccioli I’m fine with. His record has been great in the Shield for a sustained time now. I’d still have Murphy above him

Murphy for G familiarity, Rocc on recent Shield performance, Kuhn is probably least likely but the English batting lineup may create some juicy potential there.

Honestly, all 3 are decent options and I'd hope that whoever gets the spot is given some leeway from the punters and the press - the poms are going to go hard early on whoever is chosen to mess with them mentally. Gonna need to be strong willed to make it work (which, being a spinner in Australia, you'd hope is already the case).

Rocco...

you know what you are getting with both Murphy and kuna Bowlers who are better suited for the subcontinent

As a spinner Rocco has been in the top 5 wickets takers in the shield for the past 3 seasons bowling on green tops that has suited the pace men for ages and he is the most similar to Lyon with his over spin and bounce compared to Murphy who bowls quick for a spinner and uses side spin

why not see what Rocco can provide ??

Really depends on what they want.

Murphy has more tricks and IMO a higher ceiling than Kuhnemann. But Murphy has been captained pretty badly. With him, we are back where we were with Nathan Lyon in 2011. Need to pick and stick, and be patient with him.

Kuhnemann is ready to go. He is a more mature selection in the style of Steve O'Keefe. Dour, tight, gets through the overs.

I can see Murphy taking a few wickets but also getting carted. I can see Kuhnemann not taking any wickets but keeping it tight. 0/70 off 30 overs type bowling.

I have both of these two way ahead of anyone else.

I would seriously consider playing them both if the wicket is on the flatter side. Starc, Boland, Murphy, Kuhnemann, Green to carry the workload.

Murphy has huge potential IMO
Matthew Kuhnemann's bowling looks more dangerous.

I don't really care which way they go though, won't surprise me if Murphy gets the nod given he is young.
Lyon looks like he is on the way out with getting injured lately, they might want to make Murphy the new guy to grow into the team.

To pick a left armer in Australian conditions they'd want to be dominating the shield across multiple seasons after the Beer/Doherty horror shows.

I would go with Murphy.
Looking on cricinfo, Beer had 21 wickets in 10 games @ 46 that Shield season. It's incredible he was selected.
Lyon was also over 40. Doherty surprisingly averaged 28 but his overall record was abysmal. SOK was the best option at that time.

I'd be happy with any of them. I actually think Kuhnemann is the best of the three but he's only played tests in Asia. I just like the way he adapted to test cricket.Would also like to see Rocc rewarded the same way Webster was though.

Beer and Doherty were selected because

a) There was some hare-brained idea that England's top order - esp KP - were vulnerable to left arm spin.

b) SOK was a plonker and must have already had some black marks internally against him.

The reason I have Murphy 3rd of the 3 is that he is quicker through the aur and a bit flatter, giving it a rip. That is more suited to the sub continent than Australian pitches, where more overspin and bounce is needed. His first class average of 34, compared to his Test average, all on the sub continent, of 28 is testimony to that. Australia is the worst place to bowl finger spin and you need a certain skill to bowl well here. Hence why sub continent spin bowlers struggle badly here. Murphy definitely plays on sub continent Tours and did do pretty well in England too.

Corey Rocc is more in the Lyon mode in style of bowling, over the top with overspin and bounce, easily best suited style to Australian pitches, and Kuhnemann seems to go well here as well in the sub continent, but not as well as Corey Rocc in Australia. Corey Rocc has the best first class average of the 3, with 28, indicating an ability to bowl on our pitches, with Kuhnemann 29. Think it is out of those two with Corey maybe be being the one best suited in Australia.
