It should be D. Martyn.

He performed well in NZ earlier this year and, has done well in Pura Cup matches.

Lost his spot because Ponting was fit, not as a result of poor form.

Cheers.

cheers!

Katich or Martyn......Martyn has the edge though cause he's played more internationals and scores quicker but Katich is still pretty classy!! They should both be in, kick out Slater, he aint doing much!!

Martyn will get in. He's got enough "credits in the bank" in my view. Thats if Tugga misses, of course.

Well Grendel, he is out. He said so after the victory.

Also, I agree with nearly everyone else here, Martyn!

I agree with Grendel what a way to add to the tough image by returning from the dead to further terrorise the broken Windies.
If the selectors want to maintain any credability Martyn is certain to get the nod (should have been in the side for the 1st 2 anyway)

The selectors have a tough choice. Martyn, Katich and Hodge all have had a great start to the summer. I think Martyn would get the nod purely on the fact that he's had experience at the top level and he was in the starting 12 in the first test

Lets say Martyn gets picked.

Comes in scores a double hundred in the first innings and (surprisingly!) we have to bat again and he gets another ton!

What happens in the next test??

You can't give him the flick!!!

That's academic Gonzo as Martyn is a hack and will do well to get a 50.

If they pick on form - they MUST pick Hodge (most runs, highest average, most 100's)

I think the team should be-

Hayden
Slater
Langer
Waugh.M
Ponting
Gilchrist
Harvey
Lee
MacGill
Gillespie
McGrath

There is a good number of bowlers, and some of these bowlers can also be handy with a bat.

Ian Harvey for a test match? I think the selectors would want to replace Steve Waugh with a batsman, considering the bowling department is already looking sound. PieGirl#41 can you tell me Harveys average and form this year for the Vics in the Sheffield Shield?

GoEagles-That is just my opinion on the team. If you want some of Ian Harveys stats take a look at the baggygreen site.

Martyn first.......daylight second.
I base this not necessarily on form nor ability, rather on the selectors need to be seen as credible. It's bloody hard to get into this side, they must pick the player at the top of the pecking order.

Piegirl? Harvey? Who, Neil? You've got to be joking. Martyn before Hodge. Easily. And this is from a Vic.

Martyn Will get the spot in the side!

But i think i would like to see Hodge in the side. Bout time another Victorian got back in the test side.

My 3rd Test Side

G.Blewett (Still Dont Like Hayden Being There Even After 69 Runs)
M.Slater
J.Langer
M.Waugh
B.Hodge (Martyn Will Get It Thougth)
R.Ponting
A.Gilchrist
B.Lee
S.MacGill
J.Gillespie
G.McGrath

12th Man I.Harvey

Someone Else who could be thougth of is Darren Leahmann!

Blewett Is in good form opening the batting at the moment thats y i have choosen him as an opener!

It wouldn't surprize me to see Tugga line up in the third test....why would he miss a straight sets defeat of the Windies?!
But if he doesn't, why not give someone like Hodge a go?

Goatmaster - who would you not have selected in favour of Martyn??

Gonzo - I'd love the replacement to succeed and then we could get rid of the most tinny batsman of all time - Mark Waugh, who only makes runs when he needs to survive!!

I was hoping you would tell me his stats PieGirl (most people here back up their statements). Anyway, I had a look and his average in the Sheffield Shield is 29.13

As you said, that's just your opinion, but I think the Australian selectors would want more of a solid batsman rather an all-rounder
to replace Steve Waugh.

Mags - I reckon Darren Lehmann would be in with a rough chance. He's had some great knocks so far this season!
