The time has come where clubs are thinking about who to de-list or trade.

Who would you de-list or trade from your club?

For me, Geelong would be:

S.Arnott - Trade
D.Lowther - Trade
B.Stoneham - Retire
P.Lynch - Retire (What a shame)
D.Hall - Retire
H.Simpson - Trade/de-list
T.Lynch - De-list
L.Pickering - Retire
M.Woolnough - De-list (maybe being a bit rough as he hasn't really had a chance)

WCE2000, That was Marcus Baldwin. A recruit we got from either Hawthorn or Brisbane - I'm not quite sure which one it was.

He has been on our rookie list all year and was promoted when Liam Pickering retired last week. He has dominated the reserves comp in Victoria this year, but we have been unable to get him on the senior list.

Mark Woolnough played 2 games in 1998 in his debut season, and infact did kick a goal with his first kick.

He did his knee in the same practice game as Leigh Colbert in 1999 and then lasted 10 minutes into his comeback match before it ruptured again earlier this year.

He is still only 20, but with such a tall team now comprising of Ling, C.Mooney, J. Mooney, Probably Mensch, Maybe Gherig, (subject to current rumour) Bizzell, King, Graham, Harley, McGrath, Scarlet and now Baldwin, I doubt there would be any room for him in the side.

Schwartz came back 3 times, so there's always hope that he may be alright, but I doubt he will succeed at Geelong. One thing we do know is that he certainly can play.

Caven (Retired already)
Bond (Delist)
Byrne (Delist)
Cicolella (Delist)
Clarke (Trade)
Connell (Trade/Delist)
Ellen (Delist)

Maybe's
Jarman (May retire, body probably not up to it anymore)
Vardy (Time to move on?)
Welsh (Plays from behind)

Must keeps
Biglands (could be anything)
Burton (could play almost anywhere)
Crowell (Showed enough in 1st year)
Eccles (will continue to improve if can stay fit)
Edwards (now 1 of the 1st picked)
Goodwin (class act)
Hart (club leader)
Johnson (future club leader)
McLeod (no comment needed)
Perrie (Could develope into good CHF)
Rehn (MUST stay)
Ricciuto (Next captain)
Stenglein (good developing player)

Trade Fraser.
Trade Wooden (gutsy little guy, very good in the wet.)
Trade Belotti } Neither of these guys are real stars

wink.gif

Delist J. Duckworth
Elevate S. Duckworth
Get rid of S. Bennett (trade if possible, probably not)
Trade Callum Chambers to Vic (has shown enough to be worth something)
Retire Bluey McKenna
frown.gif

Get rid of Michael O'Brien

I'd definately keep Andrew Williams. Has played quite well this year, despite being moved all over the ground. Can defend, but is a good kick on goal.
Keep Brauny, Fletch & Read (he is our passion, while the first two will be important to our rejuvenated midfield).
Donnelly and Symmons are our second level players. We need them when we're hit hard by injuries. Remember Symmons season in 97? When he took over Mainy's wing? He was great. And I don't think Keven Sheedy would agree that Donners is a useless player. He's another one who can play forward or back. Perhaps leaving them on the list just isn't fair to the player.

We have to target Bell & Chick (although I don't think either will come over), Lalich and Hay (desperate to come home? The Judge connection has to be worth something).

Eaglefan,
You have got to be kidding? Noone bar the Eagles would have taken Stone in the first place. We certainly don't want him. I don't want Metro either but I have a feeling he will be traded in a swap for Harding.
We will delist Clucas, Gale and Carroll, although we may be able to trade Carroll. I can't imagine anyone wanting Gale at all.
Sinclair may get traded to Victoria although I am not sure about it.
You can forget Chick coming to the Eagles as i have it on good authority he doesn't like Judge and that is reason why his game has flourlished this year.
I don't think Bell will come back for either side and don't be surprised if Mitchell White is not at the Eagles next year. Mark my words.
I would not delist too many others on our list as they are young but they may end up being used as trade bait.

For the Swans :

Craig O'Brien - retired already
Peter Filandia - retired already
Stuart Maxfield - veterans list next year
Dale Lewis - already on veterans list, may retire
Daniel MacPherson - good trade bait, but would be nice if he can stay
Brett Allison - delist
Ryan O'Connor - delist / trade
Leo Barry - delist / trade
Scott Russell - has already retired
Simon Feast - may win a reprieve, MUST improve next season
Brett Kirk - delist / trade
Troy Luff - On Veterans list next year, future still in doubt.
Dwayne Simpson - delist / trade
Ryan O'Keefe - trade
Gerrard Bennett - delist / trade
Paul Allison - has already scarpered

We are shopping for a couple of key position players but as you can see we don't have alot to offer as a trade, so i don't think the Swans will have too many draft picks this year ....

BSA

We'll take Leo Barry then!

At Arden Street, the following will be either looking for a new home or spending more time in the garden.

Robert Scott (retire)
Brady Anderson (delist)
Cartma...sorry, David Calthorpe (delist)
Kent Kingsley (delist)
Craig Sholl (retire)
Stuart Cochrane (delist)
Ryan Pagan (delist)
Evan Hewitt (trade/delist)
Adam Hay (delist)
Brett Chandler (delist...I'd love him to stay, but with lists getting cut down, he'll be gone)

There is plenty of speculation among North fans that there may be trades on for Peter Bell, David King, and/or Corey McKernan.

That's a pretty good list, Drakey. The only disagreements I would have are on Clarke and Vardy.

Clarke deserves another chance now that football is his primary focus and Vardy is one of my favourite players. Goalsneaks of his calibre are invaluable and I feel a marking forward would complement his game.

BSA

I know that North were after Leo Barry a couple of years ago. From the sounds of it, he could do well in the same Pagan designed football remedial classes that have helped the likes of Pike, Abraham, McCartney, Bell, Clayton etc. etc. When Pagan has an eye on a player, he'll go after them when they become available, so if Barry does get delisted, it wouldn't surprise me to see North pick him up.

Just to let gocatsgo know that Marcus Bladwin was at the Hawks for two seasons before we cut him last year. Good on him for finally making senior footy. He was always a good mark but god he used to fall over alot!
Anyway if his ground skills have improved he may just make a player.

As for the Hawks and possible delistings we are already at the 38 required for next season with the retirements of Salmon and Krummel. No one has as yet come up from the supps list.

The couple on the list that may go in trades are Collica back to WA. Taylor and Lekkas may ask for a release to another club as they are struggling under the new coaching style. Obst may be used as a lure or bonus for any deal that may come up.

Chick and Holland everyone and his dog knows about, I dont think there has been any decent proposals for either of them put forward yet so I really cant see them going regardless of media speculation.

Hazell,Cox,O'Farrell and Young would all be on thin ice.
I really hope Young falls through it.

The rest should be safe, but again it may come down to whats offered around by other clubs. The likes of Graham may be looked at by a team with a small defence who may be willing to trade us a midfielder.

Interesting times ahead.

FreoRules, congrats first of on the win

good stuff.

Maybe you can tell me about White and the Hawks rumour that ive been hearing? Any truth to it? Seems like more smoke than fire but again i cant really see it. Just curious if its being said over in the West as well as here.

(Log in to remove this ad.)

I actually sat down and went through our list a few days ago.

Collingwood...

Delist:
M Clark
M Gardiner (our crap one, not the WC guy)
S McKee (Kingy, come back!!! Worst trade in history)
R Olarenshaw
M Orchard
S Rocca (gone)
S Patterson
B Smith

Trade:
M Michael (keep if no suitable deal...)
G Freeborn (keep if no suitable deal...)
J Wasley (gutsy, works hard, can't kick)
(keep if no suitable deal...)

P Licuria (slow, soft, never works hard)
M Richardson (forever showing potential and never delivering)

Retire:
S Hawking (announced)
G Crosisca
G Brown

Of the rest, the following need to prove themselves next year or disappear.

A Ukovic
T Lane (why's he been out all year?)
S Watson
B Tuckey
D Roach (taken at #7 overall in last year's draft... but he's been woeful in the reserves this year)

The rest are fairly safe for now...

Although I'd like to see if Rhyce Shaw can get a hardball, and Leon Davis do more than fade in and out.

Basically, it's looking bleak next year and up after that.

Thanks,
Matt

mtffafl, surley thatws a bit hard on McKee. He did play a half decent game against the Dons for you. Has Ricky O been able to say that?

ps Some of the Hawks/Woods interloving in the mid 90's Sharkey,Hassell for Crow,Mcdonald,Gibson had to make both supporter groups cringe when looking back
eek.gif

Yeah,
Hawks and Pies were good at trading duds to each other. Crow produced a season for us when he was hard working, McDonald was always soft.

We also managed to get that huge Gorilla-looking dud from you in the pre-season draft one year.
I think his name was Jason Taylor but I may be mistaken.
I just remember the face and the lack of co-ordination.

Collingwood also has a tradition of recruiting useless Richmond ruckman.
Matthew Francis was the best of them - he had a few reasonable years.
Brad Smith was hopeless and will be delisted having played 1 game.

As for McKee...

I know you need to give players time to develop etc.
But two things that can't be developed are a football brain, and the natural desire for the ball, agression at the ball etc.

McKee lacks both of those.

He is soft as butter, won't attack the ball and is the laziest footballer I've seen at Collingwood for a long time. He simply does not want to work.

Thus him being dubbed by my contingent of Collingwood fans (that I sit with at every match) as Wes Fellows.

His game against Essendon was his only decent game for the year, and even then he did nothing much except sit back and mop up across half back with many spoils... Anyone can do that.

Ricky O was the worst trade in history... Sorry...

I keep forgetting what we were stupid enough to trade for him. A round 1 draftpick!!!

I thought we were stupid then, but that he might at least play a few reasonable games.
It was even worse than that!

Matt

For me, Carlton must do this...
DELIST
mad.gif

Darren Hulme (please for God's sake)
Adam Chatfield (one game is three years)
Ian Prendergast (no games in two years and had spent most of his time injured)
Stephen O'Reilly (what a waste of a draft pick)
Adam White (It's unfortunate because he had real potential but it has to happen)
TRADE
frown.gif

Glenn Manton (But who'd want him, he is way too one dimensional. All he can do is punch)
Dean Rice (who'd want him either, but he's more a hindrance than a help)
Ben Nelson (It pains me to type it, cos I reckon he's great once he going (and not bad looking either), but he has to either go and get someone who is going to get a game for him, or they have to play him, which they won't do.
RETIRE
Michael Sexton
Ron DeIulio
and most likely Braddles.

They must recruit a running foward ala Brad Johnson or Brent Harvey Style
A tall backman ala Jonathan Hay or Trent Croad style
A quality midfielder ala Ben Cousins or Shane Crawford Style
And one more tall foward ala Ben Dixon style.

Sorry mtffafl but Jason Taylor was no gorrilla. Long blond streak of bones. He actually was okay for us early 90's. Then for some reason he just stopped being a footballer. Still scratch my head over that one. Pess may agree with me here.

As to the gorilla, got me stumped
eek.gif

Just no idea on that one. You do have my sympathys re Ricky O. At least though his name sounds cool

Assuming that 38 is the number on the senior list for next year the Lions should do the following:

Delist:
Hueskes (retired already)
Champion (retired already)
Lambert (will probably retire)
Martin McKinnon (disappointing)
Stefan Carey (hasn't done enough)

Trade:
Brett Voss (hate to see him go, but might be useful as trade bait to pick up a needed player)
Brad Scott (ditto for B. Voss)
Mick Martin (disappointment this year, however a good reserve midfielder/HB flanker, who might be kept on the list)
Ben Robbins (might have done enough recently to add to his price as per trade bait or even be kept on the list)
Des Headland (hasn't done a lot so far, trade back to WA perhaps)
Matthew Kennedy (trade bait).

Trade deals involving Kennedy, Headland, Martin, Scott and Voss might pick up a couple of ready made players for the Lions such as Gehrig. It's been suggested elsewhere that the Lions need another quality midfielder and centre-half forward/full forward. I tend to agree with this. Replacements for Lambert and Lynch should be found ASAP.

The axe is sure to be wielded down Moorabbin way. And if doesn't, many of us will have some harsh words.

We have recently re-signed a few players but as we all know, that can easily be just a measure to ensure that if we were to lose any of these players it would have to be via a trade and not for nothing.

I'm not confident with my list and I am likely to change my mind.

Tim Watson - Retired
Andrew Plympton - Likely to retire
Tony Brown - Has ability but can't be carried forever. Trade bait.
Sam Cranage - Again should be used as trade bait. A good talent but too inconsistent.
Tim Elliott - No coordination
Jason Heatley - Has performed very well as a centre-half back in VFL recently. Enough to save career? Up to new coach
Kurt Heazlewood - I am a fan of his in VFL but no senior games in 2 years makes him very vulnerable
Gavin Mitchell - Had enough chances
Damian Monkhorst - Performing great in VFL. Unfortunately too good for VFL and not good enough for AFL.
Damien Ryan - Good tagger but shocking disposal
Ben Thompson - Not up to standard
Matthew Young - Poor year. A big worry is that he is not performing in VFL when dropped

And that list is being kind to quite a few other underachievers.

hey roylion, the eagles will be willing to take des headland any day.
Ive seen him play a couple of games and i cannot understand why you guys dont give him more of a run because he is a very good player.
He he wants to return to WA i think you'll find he will be very welcome here at West Coast.

Bluecrow,

I’m sorry, but Connell isn’t that good. It seems that every set of supporters has one player from their team who they dislike and in my household it’s Matt “Mr Turnover” Connell. I know he gets the ball and players who do that are hard to find, but he simply cannot dispose of it to a team-mate. He will unerringly kick short and high to a contest, almost always turning over the ball or putting a team-mate under enormous pressure. Just watch the number of times he uses high, floating kicks. Once you’re aware of it it will drive you mad.

Connell would have been traded had Blight coached for another year. How did Connell become club champion in ’95? I don’t remember taking much notice of him then.

“Oh no, Connell’s got the ball. Don’t kick it, don’t kick it...aaaargh.”

Daniel & Bluecrow

It's interesting reading your thoughts.

Here are my reasons for either getting rid of or offering for trade some of the players you have questioned.

1. Vardy. Sure he is great when he is on. He is also lazy. With the forward line we had this year we were never going to take too many contested marks. We needed players in the forward 1/2 to work hard & hold the ball in. Vardy doesn't chase hard enough often enough. Loads of talent yes. Exciting yes. But not consistent enough & not a hard enough worker. I would be prepaired to trade him but the price would have to be right.

2. Welsh. Plays from behind. Good forwards play in front. He MUST learn to get in front or he will disapoint in the long term. Sure he has kicked the most goals for us this year but up until round 21 we had the 3rd highest 50 metre entries in the league. Someone had to get them. How many times did he do nothing at all? I would be prepaired to trade him if the price is right.

3. Koster. Played 1 good game all year tagging Crawford who could'nt get a kick anyway his form was so bad. Can't hold down a wing anymore & can't kick. Where do you play him?

Connell. Always runs to get the soft kick. Lots of disposals from the pockets & wide on the flanks. Poor descision making. Never see's the 1st best option. Can't kick. He is never tagged because even though he gets a lot of the ball the opposition know he won't hurt them with it.

Gallagher. Maybe he deserves another year but he can't kick! I want him to do well. I want anyone who wears the jumper to do well, but be honest. Your heart is in your mouth every time he gets the ball.

Thiessen, Cicolella & Byrne. I just don't think they are good enough.

Clarke. I would have him 4th behind Rehn, Biglands & Marsh as ruckmen. If he can develope into a key defender or forward then maybe but I don't think he can so trade him while you can get something for him.

Crowell. Top talent & a bargan to boot. Looked real good up forward at times this year.

Ayres. I have tried to keep an open mind. I was concerned when we got him at to me he had taken a GF side in Geelong & turned them into a team that couldn't make the 8.

I put my concerns aside though as we have already had 4 coaches in 10 years which is a saints/richmond type record.

After this year however I am worried. He has pulled some moves that just havn't worked ie) McCloud as a tagger. twice! He seems slow to react to moves that need to be made and where is the forward structure! The players don't look like they know what to do when going forward.

We are stuck with him though for at least 1 more year so lets hope I'm wrong. After all he knows more about footy than I do.

Anyway they are my opinions & like arseholes we all have them
