So no more de-listings if we only use 3 picks.

Are we able to use 4 picks in the draft and then delist/rookie someone after?

Currently we can use picks 11, 31 and 43 plus the additions of Yeo, Ellis and the 3 upgraded rookies in Mcgovern, Tunbridge and Benell. If we want to use pick 49 we needed to delist/rookie Newman.

Well its probably for the best, but why keep both of Butler and Smith instead? In my mind Butler would have been the one to as I think others will be better placed to fill his role and he hasn't got another string to his game.

He will be phased out next year and is still pretty good for depth while the younger players develop.

Honestly, i just saw this on FB from the club page and was pretty disappointed that these two were cut and MCginnity, Smith and even Waters and Butler were kept. I know people will not agree with me, but when it comes to Waters and Butler i just think they are spent injury wise, so are not much good being on the list even for depth because they get injured so often. McGinnity has no skills that warrant an AFL spot and Smith does not look interested. I though Morton had shown that he had done what the club had asked him this year by at least hitting contests harder, and when he played for us he was dangerous in a couple of games that he did play, so i would of given him one more year. Dalziell is the perfect depth player imo.

Morton and Dalziell were out of contract. The others you mentioned weren't.

Could we still not delist them due to injury or any other reason we deem fit? We have plenty of money, i'm sure we could pay them out if need be seeings as they havent added much onfield in the last season or more due to being constantly injured.

you can still delist contracted players, you just need to include their salary in next years cap and pay them out, or maybe we don't have room in this years cap

Salary cap would be a problem as the payouts would be included - Kerr was different because he isn't going to play football anywhere so we can use the injury for his payout to be excluded from the cap. We wouldn't be able to do that with anyone else.

That can only be done after the draft so we would have to go the PSD to replace them

Really disappointed to lose Dalziell, he really stepped up and performed pretty well in a really poor and injury ravaged season. Even if he is just injury cover, there's no guarantee that we'll fare better with injuries next season. Definitely deserves to be on the list more than a few of the contracted players, like Smith. If we didn't jump the gun and upgrade both Bennell and Tunbridge, he would probably be safe. Not likely to happen, but I wouldn't him being put on the rookie list.
Not surprised with Morton, he was really ordinary in the WAFL GF in particular.
Was expecting Newman to be delisted like most people, is he contracted next year or not?

Hopefully we're learning to not take on other clubs delisted players.

Have any delisted players ever moved on to become decent to good players in another team?

Craig Bolton ... everyone's hoping there is another Craig Bolton out there

The thing with Bolton though - he couldn't crack a senior gig in a team that had won 2 flags

We are picking up blokes who can't get a game in a side that wins the wooden spoon.

Dalziell plays a wide and unaccountable brand of football, he's slow and has average skills. At 27 he had little to know scope for improvement and we won't miss him in the long run. He certainly did have a purple patch during the later part of the season were he looked good when others were struggling.

We upgraded three rookies before Kerr retired and haven't yet delisted Newman and you think he's unlucky? I think it's pretty obvious how highly he was regarded at West Coast.

My money is still on Smith being at West Coast in 2015.

I feel sorry for Razzle, had a great year, but I think it's a good move. If he's in the side unfortunately it probably means we aren't good enough to be contending for a premiership anyway...

So it looks like they're going to have to toss up whether to delist and rookie Newman and use pick #49 or just use the 3 picks. Going to be interesting.

So this is why they call it the silly season. Blokes like Dalziell who play with heart and passion for the jumper get delisted but hacks like the player pictured below keep there spot

TURN IT UP WEST COAST

well that was an interesting choice of delistings..and a learning curve..in this topics cut and thrust, with all the names mentioned as potential delistings, some of us forgot about contracts..some posters did try to remind us..

given that, then its fair to say others will be gone from that list when their contracts expire next year..also mcginnity and butler have some big game experience between them, which can still be handy in rotations or depth, even if theyre on the outer..yeh,a bit tough for dazzle, just not enough razzle? morton, well just couldnt see anything there in his outings compared to wilson, carter, tunbridge for example...

having just read article about how tough, ruthless and clever the pies have been with their list and trades, we need to follow that example sooner than later..and seem to be doing that, more class players please..with kerr gone, that midfielder!!! ;)
