Dalziell, seems like a decent bloke, and always tries his heart out, but lacks the tools to be an effective AFL player. His wide, unaccountable football, without footskills is not what we needed. Brutal, but effective list management from Simpson, and a good indicator of what's to come.

Morton, what a waste of talent. The kid has great size, skills by foot, is athletic and a decent overhead mark. He also showed versatility and the ability to find the ball as a junior. I still think, that under the right circumstances, he could've been a handy AFL player. Although suspect he's blown his last chance.

If only we could combine the athleticism and natural ability of Morton with the temperament and character of Dalziell, we'd have had a very decent player on our hands.

No amount of passion could save Dalziell from his lack of natural ability.

Give me two players on the cusp of either edge and I'd take passion any day.
Ash Smith will never evolve into anything more than Dalziell's skid mark.

So, who would we rather?:

Group 1 (Little to zero talent, gives 110%) : Priddis, Hutchings, Brennan, McGinnity and Dalziell
Group 2 (Abundance of ability, soft c*cks) : Newman, Sheppard, Lycett, Brown and Morton

Harsh on Priddis and Lycett but for argumentative purposes.

Harsh on Hutchings as well.

I wanted Newman drafted in his year and it is very harsh on Priddis and and Hutchings.
Brown isn't a soft **** and was harshly judged by some this year, this leaves the true softcocks in Sheppard and Morton...To have that much natural ability and not take advantage is a ****ing sin...The previously mentioned would kill for natural talent like that let alone the ley person.

Give me Priddis, Dalziell and Hutchings over Sheppard and Morton any day of the week...No comparison!

Bloody disgusted at Dalziells delisting. Had a career best season and was one of our most consistent performers this year. Ash Smith would rather style his hair or compare tatts with Masten then actually pull his finger out of his ass on the footy field. Newman got done for GBH and was beaten by the coach in a time trial, yet both are still on the list! Ah well 95 per cent of the people on here will have to find a new whipping boy now!

Delisting Dalziell and allowing Simpson a chance to develop the types you mentioned (Smith, Newman who may be rookie listed anyway) is the best thing for the future of the footy club. Dalziell had a good year by his standards because no opponent went within 60m of him during games. He's not good.

You have a vaild point and agreed re. Shep/Morton, although I still have faith that Shep will make something of himself.

But by no means is it my opinion that Brown or Lycett are soft, rather I'm advocates of theirs. And indeed harsh on Priddis. My proposition was more based on exaggerated public opinion (not necessarily correct) and for argumentative purposes. I'll stick by my opinion on Hutchings though. If he's a midfield mainstay along with Priddis come 2015, we'll be down shit creek. We really need more class, poise and skill in the middle, one Priddis is more than enough.

lol. Smith has had more success with us than Dalziell did.

The way I see it, if we are a point during a season where with our list, bradd dalziell is getting that much game time, we're probably depleted with injuries and not going to be in the running for a flag. So although he did have a good year, we'd just be treading water by resigning someone like him.

Sheed's got to be a lock in now for sure, right?

Our current list movements (provided Ellis and Yeo come through) are:

Out:
- Kerr
- Embley
- A Selwood
- Hams
- Dick
- Nicoski

In:
- McGovern
- Tunbridge
- Bennell
- Ellis
- Yeo

This leaves us with only the one spot and likely either with 6, 40 and 41 or 6, 24 and 58 (before compo). So, what player would you delist first? And who second if we were to use a third pick?

For me:
1. Dalziell
2. Morton

I know this could easily go in the main mega thread, but I think it would get lost and is a relevant topic in itself as we approach the final week of trade week (though merge if you disagree).
You should tale up list management

Cant see Dalziel being rookied, Morton maybe a chance?
Unfortunate for Dalziel, thought he was starting to show the reason they got him in the first place.

Happy to see Morton gone, DDD is a touch unlucky as his output well and truly exceeded several others but I can understand the rationale on 'potential' grounds - glad he finished with a decent season

Sheppard isn't that soft, in fact I've seen him go in pretty hard.

I feel like he really lacks game nous tho, just doesn't know how to get consistently involved at AFL level. Has to be between the ears. He also suffered from never having a steady role.

He is the one guy I hope the new coaching team can tap into his potential. 2014 is a big season for him, has to make the most of it.

The delistings aren't harsh enough for mine. That said, there's only so many players you can move on in a year. Simpson has this offseason and next to start shaping the list in his image. That's going to require a clean out of superfluous players and those who are simply not up to it.

The biggest problem with us fans is we become far too attached to players. That blinkers our judgement at times. I know Ash Smith's potential has gotten the better of me at times.

IMO Hutchings is the only midfielder from our current playing group that is prepared to put his head over the footy and do the hard stuff. He goes in much like Kerr in that he thinks of getting the ball ahead of his own safety. We could do with more midfielders with that same mentality.

We can delist players who are contracted, but people should be aware of the costs involved.

So, if it is a choice between a contracted and uncontracted player, there would have to be a damn good reason to get rid of the contracted player.

That they are hopeless and are never going to improve is a very good reason imo
