Eaglemaniac - under Worsfold the plan was for young Selwood to become a more offensive midfielder thereby creating a space for a pure lockdown player within the squad/team - McGinnity. Unfortunately for Dalziell - the combination of being a freewheeling wingman (with limited skills) and being OOC proved fatal.
Likely Simpson will have a different midfield strategy for Scott which may influence whether McGinnity gets considered. No doubt however, that under Simpson's penchant for quality ball use, McGinnity will be under the pump.
Thanks for your insight as always Bond. I and many others appreciate it.
I think alot of us could see that Woosh had changed his plans for Selwood based on the way he has played the last season or so. I guess most of us just couldnt understand his overrating of McGinnity. It was almost like he was trying to make him a success because he saw some of his own self in McGinnity, and i think it has been to the squads detriment at times. Woosha used to reward players on form, not name, and that was part of what made our club so successful in the past. Once he started going away from that, our team started to struggle as well. Hopefully Simpson sticks to his guns and rewards players on form and finds good users of the ball in our list, and also finds a way to make the most of them via game plan & strategy etc. I'm looking forward to seeing what he comes up with.
