I don't rate Johnson either...

He has a good enough record does Siddle, but I'm unsure as to the extent of his performance and importance when needed most, hence why I think he's overrated... seems to mainly remove the lower order. I asked about his list of victims etc for peace of mind and clarity.
He's no champion but has been dependable and if anything I've always thought the opposite - gets the good batsman and not many cheap wickets. The batsmen he's dismissed most in his career are:
11 Prior
10 Pieterson
6 Broad
6 Bell
6 De Villiers
6 Cook
6 Swann

Pretty solid list.

Abbott

He's been the best bowler in Sheild for a few yrs
I don't think he'll get a game though
PR is more important than results for CA, and they'd err due to Abbott being the bowler who struck Hughes

What shield have you been watching?

Certainly not Sheffield Shield because Abbott isn't even NSW's best bowler over the last few years

10th on the wicket tally last year and 11th the year before. He's 21st this year.

I would look at a side like this:

Burns
Warner
Smith
Voges
S. Marsh
Nevil
M. Marsh
Faulkner
Pattinson
Lyon
Hazlewood

Gives us our 5 bowlers. Nevil, Marsh, and Faulkner can do the work of a 6 and 7 between them. Faulkner for Siddle strengthens the batting to make up for Marsh just not being a number 6 yet. Nev is a good batsman for someone who is a good keeper, but not yet a test number 6 either.

Not opposed to Faulkner but how is he bowling so far this summer?

So who in the poll is actually fit to be selected?
Bird, Bollinger, Fekete, Stanlake, Sandhu, Paris, Mennie, Abbott.

So basically Bird should be the front runner.

Wasn't Fekete selected for the Bangladesh tour? Though, I don't think he's a good selection.

It's a shame that whenever an opportunity seems to present, Coulter-Nile and Behrendorff find themselves injured.

Has done sweet FA in the Shield since however.

First of all, no he hasn't, not by a long shot. Had a bowling average of 32, far from special.

Secondly, the second system is just ridiculous.

Coulter Nile isn't injured. He's suspended

Pedantic much?

He was suspended in his 2nd XI return from injury. Even if he wasn't suspended, he was never going to get selected due to lack of cricket because of injury.
Doubt it, he would have been picked.

Actually don't really mind that side bearing in mind who's actually fit and available. Is Faulkner fit yet?

I proposed the same in another thread, it's Faulkner's home ground, it seems like the best chance to test the combination and see how it works. Provided Faulkner only missed for a minor twinge and not a serious injury; he seems fairly durable.

Siddle is the most overrated bowler I can remember who has played for this country. I'm at a loss as to how he's still in calculations.

Before the Adelaide test there was talk of how shit Hazelwood was which is fair enough, he took 4 wickets @ 69 in the first 2 test matches...

Suddenly you put in a bowler who bowls tight and builds pressure and he takes 9 wickets for the game and destroys the Kiwis

Of course I am sure it just a coincidence that happens when the attack has a containing bowler instead of the inconsistent Johnson who was going for 4.6 an over

Peter Siddle ends up the only Australian bowler with an economy rate under 3 for the series, someone suggest Marsh could replace him as containing bowler, pretty fun given he goes for over 4 an over...

I'm OK with Nevill at 6, Marsh at 7, Faulkner at 8.

Ideally I'd like to see the great BW Hilfenhaus get off 99 test wickets but since he's not even playing for Tasmania that seems unlikely.

I reckon the selectors will just pick Pattinson for the Windies Series and assuming Cummins is still dead then Fekete into the extended squad.

This was suggested with a straight face? I actually think he's more of a wicket taker, not sure what his strike rate is (it may prove me wrong) but I think he can get people out, but he'll leak runs for you.
