Just read Mark Robinson's All Australian team (as of round 8)

B: Dustin Fletcher (Ess), Ted Richards (Syd), Scott Thompson (NM)
HB:Beau Waters (WC), Michael Johnson (Frem), Heath Shaw (Coll)
C: Brent Stanton (Ess), Scott Thompson (Adel), Dane Swan (Coll)
HF: Steele Sidebottom (Coll), Lance Franklin (Haw), Lewis Jetta (Syd)
F: Stewart Crameri (Ess), Taylor Walker (Adel), Cyril Rioli (Haw).
Foll: Dean Cox (WC), Scott Pendlebury (Coll), Gary Ablett (GC)
Inter: Sam Jacobs (Adel), Patrick Dangerfield (Adel), Jobe Watson (Ess), Josh Kennedy (Syd)

I had a decent chortle at this, no room for Deledio/Cotchin/Maric even Grigg/Rance?

Haha god this was funny

Bolded are the players which made me laugh the most.

Flecther is in purely because of the hype around his age.
Scott Thompson, I don't need to say any more
Beau Waters has been okay, certainly not All Australian
Heath Shaw, hasn't he missed half the season?!?!!?
Jetta, Rioli, and Dangerfield are all in the same boat. People just buying into the hype without actually watching them play or looking at their stats (I've never liked Dangerfield so maybe that's a bit harsh)
And to finish it off, Big Sauce Jacobs, to say he has had a better season that Maric, is like saying Melbourne are a chance for the flag

The umpires hate us. The media hates us. What else can our players do to be recognised?

Can hardly expect Deledio, Cotchin, Grigg, Rance, Maric all to be in there.

Maybe Deledio, but there's only a certain number of midfielders that can make it. Agreed that Fletcher, Thompson, Waters and Shaw are probably lucky to be there, but the rest can easily be vindicated.

Fletcher has been overrated throughout his career. Never takes a decent forward and unaccountable as they come. The oreason for his longevity has been his coach's reluctance to play him on big names.

Agree that they can't all be in there. But I think Deledio, Maric, and Cotchin are all deserving. A case can be mounted for Grigg and Rance.

looking purely with blinkers on to get tiger players in there, i could see rance for thompson, deledio for rioli (put jetta fwd pocket and lids HFF) and maric for jacobs. rioli is always selected on potential rather than consistent output. in all honesty though, i'd rather tiger players are there at season end, not rd 8 ;)

Rioli has kicked multiples in all but 2 games and has not been kept goal-less.

He has had a clear best on against St Kilda and been in the top few against Collingwood and Freo.

He has kicked the most goals of any non-KPF.

He isn't "potentially" the best forward pocket this season, he IS.

15/22 players come from four clubs.

Essendon, Collingwood, Sydney and Adelaide.

Since he's a football journalist, I assume he watches every team every week right? I mean it's his job.

LOL @ Cyril too.

Would have Rance just ahead of Thompson, and Deledio ahead of Swan. As good as Swan is, and I like him, Deledio has been better for the last 8 weeks of their careers. But Watson and Kennedy on the bench have been better than Swan also I reckon.

Dangerfield deserves to be there, has been very good this year. Same with Waters IMO. Heath Shaw been very good when he has played, can't think of anyone off the top of my head who would replace him on HBF.

Waah.

Fletcher's leading the comp in rebound 50s, equal 7th for 1%ers, top 30 for kicks (comparable to midfielders like Cotchin, Wells, Pendlebury and Montagna), with his usual timing and class disposal.
Put simply he has not played a bad game. Off the 8 weeks so far he'd clearly be in any theoretical AA side you could put together, without even thinking about it.

In all seriousness, I don't think that really needed to be said ;)

Sat night was pretty well proof in the pudding.

The only difference between Mark Robinson and a drunk who has soiled himself in a back alley is "Robbo" must meet a deadline every Monday in the Herald-Sun.

A bit rough on Crammers, sitting 3rd in the coleman and is probably the most inform medium forward going around at the moment.

Dangerfield, I reckon you've hit your own bias there- he's really taken a step up this year.

Cotchin has been very good, but which mid do you take out? He's definitely up around the mark though.

Completely agree on Lids- Needs to be in there somewhere.

As for Jacobs- He's been quietly very good this year, averaging one more hitout than Maric per game- however, I do think that Maric has provided more around the ground, certainly on the scoreboard and for mine would have him as the #2 in form ruck in the comp at the moment.

Who would have thunk it!!

The majority of the AA team made up of players from 3 of the teams sitting in the top 4 on the ladder and a team that has played off in the last 2 grand finals (winning one of them).

Surely it should be made up primilarly of Melbourne, GWS, GC kids with a couple of Tiges chucked in for good measure.

Seriously though, I would be surprised that if by the end of season Cotchin and Delidio don't make the AA squad at least, and if his form hold the big mullet Maric will give it a pretty fair crack too.

UPDATE: After my initial anger, I accept that Dangerfield should be there, same goes with Crameri, just, due to the lack of quality forwards this year.

If you really want a laugh I suggest a quick peruse of the Carlton board :)
Or the thread on the North board where they seriously believe that not turning up to a mid-year game against Brisbane will send a strong vote of protest.

Would normally be about a 14,100 crowd, with a strong protest vote will be an even 14,000 crowd.
