being a nostalgia and beloved figure of richmond during flag years and a future HOF are entirely separate things. he has only made the AA once in his entire career... you will be hard pressed to make a case for a midfielder to be selected as a hall of famer who has only been selected in the best team of the year once across a 10+ year career being edged out constantly. The bar is being set a bit low here if we throw cotchin into the mix. his individual accomplishments are not very impressive and there are many players who will be and deserve to be well ahead of cotchin for HOF status. I would put dal santo easily ahead of cotchin based on individual accomplishments. And yes he was runner up in the brownlow, you surely don't think selectors will forget that one?I know oppo supporters love a Cotchin bashing, but in case you needed reminding he has won 3 x B&F’s, made AA and won a Brownlow. Argue the merits of that ‘win’, but he is 38th in the history of the game with 146 x Brownlow votes. Top that off as a triple premiership captain, a great finals player in our drought breaking flag year and a 300-gamer, and you lose a bit of cred suggesting he won’t be a hall of famer. He’s a 100% certainty.

he came runner up and Watson handed his brownlow back so it went to next in line. I wouldnt really crow about a bradbury brownlow medal.Nick Dal Santo over Cotchin!!!!
Omg forget it I thought we were having a serious combo. A triple premiership captain with a Brownlow doesn’t get in but nick does ffs man. People have gotten in with less.

you do actually understand what i mean right? and GWS entered the AFL 2012 mate.Expansion clubs came in 2010 and 2011. Right in the middle of your super team era. By the time we had ours GWS for example had pretty much a whole team of top 10 picks. I think they made 3-4 prelims before the 2017 one. If anything 10/11 was the weak era I mean the rest of the comp was uncompetitive bar 3 teams.

so apart from the new teams it only affected bottom sides with early draft picks due to most top sides set with a good team. If it assisted any team it would have been the hawks who were tracking towards peaking around that time according to Clarko if my memory is right.
I agree, based on the performance of 2009 you could argue that Saints team could have won flags in a variety of years. Although their finals wins were 28 and 7 and they lost the GF, so not sure we are talking about any sort of all-conquering juggernaut.
Richmond of 2017 kept Geelong in the QF to their lowest score of the year. Kept GWS in the PF to their second lowest score of the year. In the GF kept Adelaide to their lowest score of the year.
In 2019 beat Brisbane in Brisbane by 8-goals. Beat the Cats in a close PF. On a beautiful sunny day kept the GWS to the lowest score on their history … not lowest for the season … lowest in their history.
2017. 3 x finals wins at a percentage of 180%
2019. 3 x finals wins at a percentage of 200%. (12 wins in a row to close out the flag)
So there’s not much in the stats or the respective finals records of these teams to suggest the 2009 Saints were beating Richmond of 2017 or 2019 in finals. A round 10 encounter at Marvel … happy to
accept they might have scraped home in that one.

he literally thinks the expansion clubs impact on the top end of the competition was when they were initially introduced... dear lord there is only so much of this i can deal with.so apart from the new teams it only affected bottom sides with early draft picks due to most top sides set with a good team. ok Dusty riewoldt rance is all. nobody else will end up HOF including cotchin. not good enough to be future hall of famer. I would say you have as many future hall of famers as that st kilda side, possibly less as i think there is every chance nick dal santo could end up a future hall of famer.
i know you only started watching footy in 2014, so maybe look up some dal santo highlights before replying saying he is crap.

Cotchin gets in but it will go down as the ultimate sympathy nomination for mine.he came runner up and Watson handed his brownlow back so it went to next in line. I wouldnt really crow about a bradbury brownlow medal.
HOF is about individual achievements, and cotchin's list is bested by plenty around the AFL who get in first. he has only made the AA side once. as a midfielder that is quite questionable for future HOF status.
Oh my.

For an experienced expert data analyst, your attention to detail is non-existent...Same s**t. What do you mean. You keep saying it’s weak cause of them. Will the comp ever be strong cause it’s been 10 bloody years.
when did GWS first make the GF? should give you an indication of when that filtration finally came into full swing.Helped the hawks not us mate, stop with your dribble.

Yeah, I just like to get facts right.Oh my you actually give a s**t about those semantics. You must not have a lot of things going on in your life.
Yeah, I just like to get facts right.
Unusual, I know...

if he does get in its based off alot of sentiment, not facts that is for sure. 1xAA selection as a midfielder is hard to stake claims for a HOF midfielder. how can you be called a future HOF midfielder if you couldnt even justify being selected as one of the current best midfielders in the competition on more than 1 occasion??Cotchin gets in but it will go down as the ultimate sympathy nomination for mine.
However, he did leave his mark on the game by way of 'The Cotchin Rule' - never choose to kick against a howling gale in the first quarter of a final when playing away against an interstate side...

I think you are struggling to comprehend how adding two extra sides to the AFL impacted the quality of the competition. It has had alot of effects across the years but in terms of impacting playing lists and standard across the competition, i would say 2016 it really began to be noticeable and came into full swing 2018-19 once that last compromised draft came into full maturity at around 25-26 Years of age.How many prelims did they make. To make repeated prelims makes you a strong team no. You keep praising the dogs in that era you hypocrite.
