Burns & he was terrible imo.

Rahilly was a huge loss.
I don't rate Burns either, but he's still a better forward line coach than Chad Cornes.
Does Nicks survive this year if there's improvement but the Crows just miss finals eg finish 9th or 10th and miss finals by a game and/or percentage?

Look at the positive - He wasn't as bad as Ben Hart.

Everything he touched here turned to shit.

Port will easily, but if The Crows finally get a decent coach, they will in the next few seasons be more successful than Port 2020-2024 period. Matthew Nicks is The Crows Ken Hinkley, a dud the club's management is fixated on, he has to go. And I think in the next few seasons, Port will fall off. I'd be shocked if Port make the grand final, this decade.

Nicks arrived at Adelaide when they were a dumpster fire, and oversaw gradual improvement every year up until this year.
He reminds me of Hardwick in his early days at Richmond, except he receives far less scrutiny from the media.

Adelaide should play finals next year and there's every chance they'll go past Port, who are destined to finish mid table again.
Nicks will be remembered as a better coach than Hinkley by the time their coaching careers are done.
He shouldn’t remind you of Hardwick early days, compare their results.

Hardwick arrived at Richmond when they had already assembled the core of their side, which was made up of high draft picks.
Nicks arrived at Adelaide before their rebuild had even began, since he's been at the club the rebuild has been hard work because of the QLD and NSW academies compromising the drafts.
It's why the Crows rise under Nicks has been slower than Richmond's rise under Hardwick.

Might also do with that Hardwick is a much smarter coach than Nicks, particularly statistically.

So they aren’t alike at all then, why are you comparing them?

Hardwick struggled without quality assistants around him, similar to Nicks.
New assistants saw Hardwick flourish and now that Nicks has new assistants, he should flourish this year.

People wanted Hardwick sacked for years and we know how that turned out after Richmond decided to keep him, and people have been wanting Nicks sacked for a while now.
Nicks arrived at Adelaide when they were a basket case, much like how Richmond were a basket case when Hardwick arrived.
Hardwick took Richmond backwards in 2016 before taking them forwards again in 2017, while Nicks took the Crows backwards in 2024 and I expect him to take them forwards again in 2025.

You need to listen to Nick's press conferences more & get back to me.

Most Crows supporters can't listen to him as feel dumber for the experience.

We have had to bring in a new coaching director to do most of the functions of the senior coach, including strategy & managing the assistants.

This is basically an admission he is not up to it.... but they re-signed him before they needed to.

Dude you’re seriously full of it. It’s a lie people wanted Hardwick sacked for years.

Hardwicks teams played finals and had a dip.

Nicks has never achieved that.

The only similarity is for one year Hardwick had scrutiny.

Now you’ve cherry picked one year from Hardwick, why aren’t you comparing Nicks coaching tenure to Teague, Richardson, Bolton, Primus…… there’s a lot more examples of failed coaches with similar records to Nicks than coaches who made it.

Are you friends with Wayne by any chance?

I admit that I haven't listened to Nicks press conferences much.
Let's say Nicks fails to take the Crows to finals this year and he almost certainly gets sacked. Who would you suggest replacing him with? Recent coaching appointments in Yze and McQualter don't exactly inspire a lot of confidence when it comes to the quality of coaches on the market at the moment.

They are on the AFL website, so take a listen to one & let me know what you think. If you are sleepy, I doubt you will last to the end.

If we are not tracking for finals next season, he must be sacked. There are plenty of better options including 2 premiership coaches & Buckley who i think would be better 2nd time around.

Richmond supporters had the knives out for Hardwick after losing to 9th in the 2013 elimination final, followed by their 3-10 start in 2014 and there were constant calls for him to be sacked from then until 2017.
How many other coaches survive for seven years without winning a final?

Our coach hasn't even made a final in 7 years!

So what you’re telling me is he made finals?

Nicks hasn’t, next comparison? How about the other coaches I named, you’ve avoided them.

Face it the Hardwick example is a weak comparison when you’re comparing coaches who haven’t played finals. He did. Plenty of coaches don’t make finals and are sacked. Compare Nicks to those.
